There’s More to “Sea” Than Just Nemo!

If you’ve ever taken the plunge on The Seas With Nemo & Friends ride, then you’ve probably found yourself exiting through an amazing aquarium.  I know how fast paced Disney is.  There are things to do, rides to ride, and shows to make.  If you are anything like me, it is easy to switch on into go mode and put that Disney World walk (invented by my mother) into motion.

Sometimes I have to consciously make myself slow down.  Today I am encouraging you to do the same thing!  One of the last times I was at Disney World I visited The Seas With Nemo & Friends Pavilion and did just this!  I enjoyed the aquarium, sea life, education, dining, and attractions.  As I was making my way to the manatees, I saw a family exiting The Seas with Nemo & Friends ride with award-winning pace.  As the mother slipped back into the Disney World “walk” I heard her son say “Mom what is that?” (pointing at the ginormous aquarium).  Before I had time to interject they were 10 feet ahead of me and I heard the Mom answer “Come on, hurry up.  Those are just fish.  We can go to the zoo at home.”  I felt like following them out and telling them that what this pavilion has to offer is better than any old zoo!  When it comes to fun, learning, and animals, this pavilion is an “all swim” attraction!  Here are some things I love about this amazing pavilion!

Sights and experiences

There are so many sea creatures in the aquariums of the Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion probably more than you can see in on day.  With sea life ranging from sea turtles to dolphins (and everything in between) there is always something new and interesting to behold.  One of my favorite sights are the informational booths set up with artifacts and information and of course a cast member there to tell you all about it.  One of the coolest sights I’ve seen at the pavilion was a booth dedicated to the bone structure of sea life.  It was interesting to see why different sea animals have different bones.  I saw the skull of a sea turtle, manatee, and even a dolphin.  We were encouraged to ask questions and touch.  It was like my own tutor.  It was awesome!

Don’t Miss…

I love the Mr. Ray’s Pop Quiz.   You can find this in the waiting area for Turtle Talk With Crush.  I love this quiz because it tests your knowledge, teaches you something new, and kills some time while you wait for Turtle Talk With Crush to begin.  Look for the computer screens and take the challenge!

Education 

I’ve always said you learn when you are at Disney World!  The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion is no exception!  There are tons of great learning opportunities in this pavilion.  There are opportunities to talk with cast members, take part in demonstrations, touch artifacts, and read information.  I love to learn and I love to share what I’ve learned with my kindergarten class!  I am telling you, this attraction never lets me down!  Last time I learned all about sea horses.  Did you know that the male seahorse actually carries the babies?  I will be first to admit I didn’t know this!  I got to learn all about it and actually see it at Disney World!

Don’t Miss…

The information cards on each tank offer you the chance to learn something new!  Take time to read them rather than just look at the animals.  The information is printed in kid friendly terms and this would be a great way to foster that sense of lifelong learning!  If you are going to Disney World during the school year this will earn you major points with the teacher!

Advocates for animals

Did you know that Disney does a lot to help animals?  Marine biologist work with sea animals such as the graceful manatees found in the seas pavilion.  These manatees are part of a rehabilitation program.  The scientist that work with the manatees have the goal of helping them get back to their home in the sea.   On my last trip, there was a cast member at the Manatee exhibit who took questions from guests.  We found out that both of the manatees in the exhibit were injured by boats.  The cast member gave us so much information on the care and rehabilitation process.  I have such a greater appreciation for those animals and the efforts of Disney!

 

Don’t Miss…

This is a HUGE pavilion.  Seriously, there is a 5.7 million gallon tank plus tons of other exhibits.  If you get the chance you should definitely check out the lower level of the manatee exhibit.  There you’ll be able to see these massive creatures as they gracefully float and dip below the surface.  The coolest part about this lower level are the side viewing spots.  Many people miss these pockets of viewing goodness because they rush past the central viewing area.  Next time you go, check out the convex and concave viewing.  On one side you feel like you are literally in the aquarium and on the other side everything is magnified.  I found this especially cool and hope you’ll try it out next time!

Something for the kids

This pavilion is full of fun things; for kids of all ages.  The fun doesn’t end as you exit the Seas With Nemo & Friends ride!  We’ve already talked about all the awesome exhibits but there’s more!  There’s Turtle Talk With Crush, Bruce’s Shark World, and more!  I love the kid friendly design of the exhibits.  There are hands on experiences, sights, and sounds!  Kids and adults will be entertained in this fun pavilion!

Don’t Miss…

Turtle Talk With Crush is such a neat experience!  The magic of Disney comes alive in this underwater attraction.  Children sit on the floor of an observation tank to talk with Crush from Disney Pixar’s Finding Nemo.  This isn’t some, canned comment predictable show.  Instead, Crush actually interacts with the audience; calling on children by describing them, answering questions, bantering with embarrassed parents, and creating a new and unique experience each time you pull up a seat at the big blue…tank!
