You Really Can't Miss This: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure!

I am always amazed by what people miss when they go to Disney World.  It seems like in the fast paced buzz of it all, often times, many of my park favorites are left off of to do lists!  That’s why, I am surprised to hear that friends and family have come back from trips to Disney World and act like they’ve never even heard of the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area.  I am always amazed as I describe in detail the oversized Playdough Can, giant film slides, and humongous ant and get a blank stare back at me.  I almost always say, “I don’t know how you missed it!”.  My astonishment is almost always met with astonishment of an equal caliber!  Today we are taking a look at the attraction that is literally larger than life!  The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure takes you into a magical world where you feel like you’ve been shrunk by Wayne Szalinski’s  amazing shrinking machine!  This play area holds fond childhood memories…I simply can’t miss it!  Today I am giving you my top 3 reasons you shouldn’t either!

1. It is fun for all!

I love this attraction because it really is fun for EVERYONE!  From kids and (wannabe to be kids) sliding down a larger than life film strip slide and crawling through spider webs to parents soaking in the magic of the moment for their children, this attraction really does have something for everyone.  I love the idea of taking a break from the go-go-go of the parks by simply enjoying the play area. I love that there is plenty of shade, fans, and a cool spot to get splashed by the hose.  The cool thing is that I have pictures of me as a child on the play area and now my sweet little nephew enjoying it.  There really is something for everyone to enjoy in this attraction!

2. There is more than meets the eye!

I love Disney magic!  Don’t you?  I love that they take something that would be a big enough undertaking, just to “do” and then they go beyond the expected and add in amazing details!  From the smells puffed into attractions like Mickey’s Philharmagic to the larger than life sets included in rides like The Great Movie Ride, Disney really delivers on details.  Trust me, they didn’t skimp on the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure.  With an enormous hose that douces guests with real water,  a buzzing bumblebee, a fully functioning (well sort of anyway) dog nose that is size of a dog house, oversized toy replicas (we’re talking: Lite*Brites, Tinkertoys, and Supersoakers…children of the 90s unite!)…this playground is much more than just a place to expend energy!  I love that every sense is entertained!  I love that you are taken into a whole new world.  You truly get the experience!  I love that place!

3. Can we say “profile picture”???

Seriously, you could do just the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure and be set for a lifetime of amazing profile pictures!  There’s the lovable Anty, big enough for a grown man to sit atop triumphantly (you own that silly pose Dad!) , an oatmeal cream pie that is just begging to be eaten, and a forest of huge Cheerios (to name a few).  Seriously, there are photo ops for days.  Get your camera ready next time you visit this attraction; I promise you won’t be let down…and neither will your friends!

I hope these 3 reasons will persuade you to head over to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!   Now its chat time!   What was your favorite toy growing up?  If you were a child of the 90s like me, does this attraction rekindle those days for you?  And my second question:  If you were shrunk in Disney World, what would you do?

As always, thanks for reading!

  1. I first experienced this when I was 12 and my sister was 16 and we still talk about it now. Since my father is “motion sensitive” it was one of the few things he was able to do with us and he had a ball there too. I can’t wait to bring my son there when we visit in December.

  2. How would anyone miss this! just as fun as the Dino boneyard area in AK. My kids love to climb run and jump and after some waiting on lines this is a nice change of pace. I do think you have to watch your child closely.

  3. This used to be a place we always made sure to visit when my sisters and I were younger, but now we’ve gotten too big for a lot of the slides. Plus I noticed that the slides need to be waxed. It was such a fun time when we did go, but I wish they would update it ever so slightly to just make it more technologically advanced.

  4. We love going to Honey I shrunk the kids! Its a nice break time for us parents and the site is so much fun to look at. The kids have a blast climbing all around and we have fun trying to keep track of them!!!!

  5. My favorite toy was my imagination. No matter what season my brother and I were playing make believe outside. I love the play place. It is sort of in the forgotten corridor of Hollywood Studios now though. If I was shrunk at Disney World I would go to the bakeries and nibble on all the yummy treats.
