Well, it is going to become a reality. Yes, the iconic Sorcerer’s Hat at Hollywood Studios will be no more. Disney has said they are going to “reimagine” the area where that hat stands right now.

I know people on both sides feel strongly, but I do think the park needs some updating. On the other hand I will miss it! A lot of people did not like it from the beginning. They felt it blocked the Chinese Theater and ruined the feel of the park.

The hat was first installed in 2001 and will meet it’s demise in 2014.

This is one of the many changes that Hollywood Studios will be undergoing. American Idol and the Studio Backlot Tour are also gone. It is said Disney will be taking Hollywood Studios in more of a “Star Wars” direction.

  1. Too late…Frozen is already at HS. But I enjoyed it. It was a Sing a Long with Storytellers and some of the characters.

  2. Isn’t the Chinese Theater “copy written” or something? I thought I heard there was a problem with that.

  3. It’s a shame Disney doesn’t give us fans a longer warning time. I wished I could have ridden Maelstrom one more time… 🙁

  4. Yes!! It keeps Mickey in the park!
Like at California Adventure, they changed a lot of things to make it more Mickey-fied… Like “Mickey’s Fun Wheel”.

  5. Right! And another problem… It’s too hard to get a PhotoPass picture with the Earful Tower. 🙁 I like to get a picture with each park icon every trip.

  6. My thoughts are as follows:

    1) I love the hat and will miss it
    2) The park does need renovation
    3) PLEASE don’t put anything “Frozen” there
    4) If they go too far in a “Star Wars” direction, a lot of people (including me) will go less than we do now
    5) If they put anything else up, it should be something that reflects many different (perhaps older – even older than Star Wars) Disney movies
    6) I love the hat and will miss it.

  7. Well, the tower is not an attraction or a restaurant either. It’s ok, but it’s not that big or noticeable except in a few places in the park. I think HS needs a grand, easily noticeable, front or centrally located park brand symbol. Maybe something new is in order. I think the hat should be kept and relocated near Fantasmic.

  8. My biggest issue with the Sorcerer’s Hat was that it was never an attraction or restaurant of any sort. Cinderella’s Castle has the princess dining area. Spaceship:EARTH has its name-based attraction within it. “It’s Tough to Be a Bug” is housed at the base of the Tree of Life. All that was at the Hat was another shop, and nothing significant, in my opinion. I think having the Chinese Theater revealed again is a wonderful change and will lead to the renewal of the Studios. Whether the theater or Earful Tower becomes the Icon….we’ll see!

  9. I wonder if they will go back to the Earful Tower as the icon, or do something different? Maybe a movie reel or film as an icon. That would be okay. I’m going to miss the hat, though.
And as for Star Wars… One area is cool, but not an icon. I’m not much of a SW fan. DHS needs to be about all Disney movies!

  10. I’m glad that they want to update the park, all parks need to do this from time to time, and I am certainly over the moon about all the talk of more Star Wars additions but I do think that they should keep the sorcerer’s hat. If it is in a place that is in the way then they should move it to a better location but it should be kept. The hat is iconic to Disney Hollywood Studios park and should be kept. People look for it so they can take pictures with it and expect to see it. It also helps to keep Micky in the park as well.

  11. I can honestly say that if they do decide to go more towards the stars wars theme I will probably not go there as often or if at all. Very disappointing! !

  12. Ugh, why are so many things getting axed before the end of this year? Why can’t it wait until after the holiday seasons? Most visitors are not locals who go multiple times a year. For those of us whose visits are years apart all of these changes this year alone include many things that we’ll not get to see one last time. It’s frustrating and sad.

  13. I’m going to miss the hat. 🙁 It’s one of the spots I take a picture of the kiddos to see how big they’ve gotten from the last trip. We’re going again this January…I hope it will still be there for one last pic.
