Africa Marketplace expansion coming to Harambe at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Spring 2015
Do you have a favorite area in Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park that you just love to “hang” in? Do you find yourself lingering looking at all the details? Well I do, and it’s in Animal Kingdom’s Africa. As you enter through Harambe you will feel completely immersed in this rural African town.
This little African town serves as a gateway to Animal Kingdom’s largest zoological exhibit in the African veldt habitat. Located at the end of Harambe’s main road near the baobab tree is one of my favorite attractions in Animal Kingdom, Kilimanjaro Safaris which gives you access to the veldt. Harambe is also where you will find the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and Conservation Station (the park’s veterinary headquarters).
As you might have guessed this area tends to get a bit crowded which is why the Disney Imagineers have come up with a new area, called Africa Marketplace which will open in the Spring 2015. They recently opened Harambe Theater which is home of the Festival of the Lion King show located behind the Tusker House restaurant. Combined with the already new Harambe Theater district area this area will more than double the size of Africa. This new area is conveniently located between the Kilimanjaro Safari area and the Mombassa Marketplace.
This new area will include new merchandise locations, a new quick service restaurant, and a new much-needed walkway linking Africa to Asia. This new walkway to Asia should ease the congestion caused by the land only having one way in, and one way out.
Harambe Marketplace, which is the name of the new restaurant, will feature several walkup windows offering a variety of African inspired dishes. Yum!
