Trip Insurance for your Disney Vacation.......Yes or No?

With Hurricane Sandy STRONGLY upon a great part of our nation and with the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream coming back on the heels of her with some horror stories in tow I thought now would be as good a time as any to talk about Trip Insurance.

I have personally NEVER taken out trip insurance on any of my Disney trips but I have sold it to clients who were VERY thankful that they used it. One client had their luggage lost by the airline on the way to a Disney Cruise to Alaska and Disney picked them up in a limo (yes LIMO) and took them shopping and insurance covered ALL of the costs for their lost items.  They did have to pay the up front costs (so always keep that in mind) but they were reimbursed for EVERYTHING.

Disney Travel Company does have their own insurance that you can add onto a package easily and most clients choose this option. If you get insurance through Disney it is 75.95 per adult and any children in the room are automatically covered. If you want to read the in’s and out’s of these policies click here.

Another GREAT option is buying a policy through travelguard. Travelguard has wonderful policies and are competitively priced, most of the time beating out Disney’s prices. My clients love Travelguard because of the great hurricane coverage they offer (and after this weeks events I HIGHLY recommend looking into this ESPECIALLY if you are taking a cruise during hurricane season!).

With the travelguard policies you can add the trip insurance at any time as LONG as it is added BEFORE the hurricane has been officially named.

What is your take on travel insurance? Have you purchased a policy through Disney or another insurance company? Do you recommend others do the same? Why or why not?
