FP+

Walt Disney World’s FastPass+ system has been in place for almost a year now.  At the 60 day mark (or 30 day mark if you are not staying a WDW property) guests can make their selections for the 3 attractions they would like a FastPass for on each day of their trip.  Guests must select their 3 FastPass+ attractions in the same park each day and some parks have a tiered system in place allowing 1 Tier 1 selection and 2 Tier 2 selections.

Making your FastPass+ selections can be a little tricky – it’s hard to know what rides are going to have a long line 60 days in advance.  With that in mind, some attractions make for a better use of a FP+ reservation than others.  I’ve broken down my Top 3 FastPass+ choices by park.  And remember, if you use a Travel Professional to help with your Disney Vacation Planning, like World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip & Co., they can help you with all of your FP+ planning and even make your selections for you!

Top 3 FP+ Selections for Animal Kingdom:

1. Kilimanjaro Safaris: If you can get an afternoon FastPass that’s a great option so you can do those attractions you don’t have a FP for at park opening.
2. Expedition Everest: The attraction does have a single rider line so if you’d rather switch it out for something else and don’t mind splitting up your party, go for it!
3. Kali River Rapids*
*But if wet attractions just aren’t your thing, swap out Kali River Rapids with Dinosaur!

Top 3 FP+ Selections for Hollywood Studios:

1. Toy Story Midway Mania: This is probably the most popular attraction at DHS and a must to FP.
2. Tower of Terror*
3. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue*
*If you’re traveling with smaller children, however I’d swap out either ToT or Star Tours for Voyage of the Little Mermaid or even Disney Jr Live (for a front row spot!).

Top 3 FP+ Selections for Epcot:

1. Soarin’: As with Toy Story Midway Mania, this is easily the most popular attraction at Epcot.  Wait times can easily reach 100 minutes in the busy summer months.
2. Mission Space*
3. Spaceship Earth
*Again, if you’re traveling with small children I’d swap out Mission Space for The Seas with Nemo and Friends

Top 3 FP+ Selections for Magic Kingdom:

1. Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train
2. Space Mountain
3. Peter Pan’s Flight: I know this one seems a little crazy to add but the wait times for this attraction are historically fairly long (reaching at least 60 minutes during the summer months) and it’s a classic so using a FP here makes sense!

Now, if you’re traveling with small children however, your Magic Kingdom FP+ Selections would probably be better looking like this:

1. Meet Elsa and Anna at Princess Fairytale Hall
2. Enchanted Tales with Belle
3. Peter Pan’s Flight

  1. I’m not a huge fan of the Tier System either. The reason we went with Soarin’ for our list is because Test Track has a Single Rider Line and Soarin’ does not! Also, for my family (we have a 2 year old) we swap out Spaceship Earth with Epcot Character Spot because my two year old doesn’t want to wait one second longer than needed when meeting Mickey!

  2. I was stunned that I found the opportunity for a FP for Haunted Mansion for that very afternoon, and….I didn’t have to take 2 other things I didnt want! It let me take the Mansion as a solo FP. Sometimes pixie dust does work!

  3. I totally agree! I had this issue when I was there a year ago and hoped they would have had that worked out by now.

  4. Rarely if ever need an FP for Spaceship Earth, but ALWAYS need one for Test Track. Since our family adores both TT and Soarin’, but TT frequently opens later in the morning, we get FPs for TT, run to Soarin’, then get TT whenever our FP opens. I really hate the “choose one” feature, though.

  5. Just be careful when you use the app to change your FastPass Experience… if you find an alternate that you like, it’ll make the change for you…THEN tell you what time your new FastPass is scheduled. The app will ask you: Do you want to change the time?…or the attraction? So let’s say I want to change my Buzz Lightyear fastpass for 5pm to Haunted Mansion, I’d say “I want to change the Attraction. Then, let’s say Haunted Mansion is actually available as an option (often we weren’t pleased with the alternate options available as all the ones we wanted were taken for the whole day, even though it was November!). I’d pick Haunted Mansion. Then the app would say, “You’re all set!” Not until then might I find out that even though it let me change it to Haunted Mansion, it assigned me the next available opening which might be 9:45pm! And it wouldn’t let me go back to my original option of Buzz Lightyear at 5pm – I’d be stuck with Haunted Mansion at 9:45. Which is not cool if we, for example, had dinner reservations at the Contemporary Resort at 9:30pm..or because I knew the baby in our party was getting tired and we didn’t plan to stay that late, etc. I could go back into the app, then, and try to change the TIME for Haunted Mansion – but there is a good possibility that if it assigned me 9:45pm, it’s because that was when the next opening was available. I inquired with cast members to be sure that I was using the App correctly – and they assured me that is how it works. Maybe they’ll change that aspect of the app and then it’ll let you know the times available for the alternate attractions when you’re trying to change your attraction BEFORE you make the commitment to select it. That would be sooo much better if they do.

  6. Great tip Toni! That’s another reason why I love the My Disney Experience App – it allows you to make those changes easily if you see one attraction with a longer than average wait and another with a much shorter wait than you were expecting.

  7. When we were at Magic Kingdom in November, the Haunted Mansion line easily reached 45 minutes and better no matter what time of day we approached it, so a fastpass helped a lot with this ride also.
