‘The Muppets’ Sequel Moves Forward; Jason Segel Not Returning to Write
Fans of the Muppets can breathe a sigh of a relief to know that Disney is pushing forward with a sequel to last years ‘The Muppets’. While the movie didn’t break box office records, the movie was highly praised by critics and fans alike, and it was great to see these characters back on screen again. Unfortunately though, it looks as if the sequel is moving forward without Jason Segel on writing duties.
Jason Segel was a big proponent of bringing the first movie to life, and it’s definitely a shame to see he isn’t on board as a writer. Director James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, co-writer of the first film, are set to come back and begin work on the second film. Now, just because Segel isn’t writing doesn’t mean he won’t be returning to the Muppets universe as Gary, Walter’s older brother. Segel’s commitment to his tv series, ‘How I Met Your Mother, which is just entering it’s eighth season, as well as his commitment to the new Judd Apatow film, ‘This is Forty’, are keeping him from scripting duties. But knowing Bobin and Stoller, I’m sure that they came up with ideas originally with Segel for a sequel that will be used here. I for one hope that Segel will have time to be a part of the second film, because if it wasn’t for him, I don’t think we’d have the Muppets back on the big escreen right now, and I really liked what he did with the first movie. How do you feel? Are you sad Segel isn’t back on writing duties? Let me know in the comments below!
