Help catch the World of Disney Thief

Help catch the World of Disney Thief

The police are asking for your help if you happened to be in Downtown Disney on December 9th near or in the “World of Disney”. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orlando Police Department are looking for a thief who stole over $14,000 worth of jewelry from “World of Disney.”

The thief stole the items around 8:30pm and headed up to a cashier at “World of Disney” with a gold necklace, matching earrings, and one or two other pieces of jewelry (including some with diamonds). The man received a discount of 20% on at least one item by showing an annual pass and then gave the clerk a Wal-Mart Visa card. When the clerk swiped the card the reader would not accept it so the cast member at “World of Disney” entered in the credit card number, expiration date and the security code on the back of his card. Unfortunately it was later determined the card was fraudulent, investigators said.

The man was wearing braces and provided identification that matched the name on the card. Police are releasing the information to see if anyone in the public knows anything about this man. If you do know anything please call  Detective Frank Delguercio at 407-939-3208.

Should you visit Downtown Disney?

Should you visit Downtown Disney?

When visiting Walt Disney World, it’s not hard to get caught up in the excitement of the parks, rides, and attractions. When you’re on Disney property, you might feel like you’re “missing out” on what’s going on inside one of the parks if you’re not in them. You can’t help but think “I could be on Space Mountain right now!” or “I wonder if there’s a lot of people watching Illuminations tonight?” Maybe you feel guilty for leisurely strolling the shops or grabbing a bite to eat at Downtown Disney, but the days of feeling guilty are over!

I love Downtown Disney. I find it’s a great place to go to escape the chaotic atmosphere that can sometimes be present in the parks. It’s also free! I like to visit Downtown Disney on my travel days, so I don’t have to worry about wasting half of a ticket day. It’s also a great way bookend to a vacation — a great place to start to prep for the parks, and a great place to end your trip and purchase last-minute souvenirs.

Are you on the fence about whether or not you want to make the trip downtown and explore? Here are some of my favorite places you’ll find at Downtown Disney that just might convince you:

Long lasting Souvenirs: Disney Theme Park Soundtracks

Disney Theme Park Soundtrack CD’s have become my favorite souvenirs!  They are well worth the price you pay, because they last quite a long time!  The majority of my CD’s were purchased back in 2005 and 2006 and they are still going strong!  Disney is currently selling a CD called Four Parks, One World which includes 37 songs and soundtracks from all 4 Disney theme parks.  Disney also offers the Soundtracks to Fantasmic, Wishes, Main Street Electrical Parade and Illuminations just to name a few.  Many of Disney’s soundtracks from shows, parades and attractions are on CD.  These CD’s are great to listen to in the car or at home when you’re in need of a “Disney fix.”   You can find these CD’s at almost all of the resorts and parks, but the largest CD selection is at World of Disney in Downtown Disney.

T-shirts can fade, antenna toppers can deteriorate, but these Disney soundtracks on CD are very long-lasting!  Next time you’re looking to purchase a souvenir that gives you the most bang for your buck, choose any of the Disney Park CDs!

Disney World Souvenirs – How Do I Decide?

Disney World Souvenirs How Do I Decide?

You don’t want to leave Walt Disney World without souvenirs.  You’ll always have your magical memories and for me, the best souvenirs is the hundreds of photos I bring home on my memory card.  But how do you decide, amongst a myriad of souvenir choices, what to bring home with you?  This decision is particularly difficult when you have children along.  Of course, they want everything, right?

Every time we make a trip to The World, we come home with something.  However, we try to base our decisions on a souvenir that will last, more of a memento from that trip.  Some of my favorites include:

1.  Etched glasses from Arribas.  You can find Arribas Brothers at Downtown Disney.  It’s a shop full of glass, so keep that in mind if you have littles shopping with you!  Each member of our family has his or her own etched glass mug from this shop.  Our name is on the front, and a favorite character on the other side.  They also do glass blowing and glass cutting demonstrations during the day.  They have many collectibles of crystal and glass that can be personalized.

2.  Christmas ornaments from Disney’s Days of Christmas.  Two trips ago, we purchased Christmas ornaments at Downtown Disney.  Each of our children chose an ornament with either a Mickey or a Minnie on it, and my husband and I got one as well.  If you’re a return traveler, perhaps you can add to your Christmas decor with an ornament or other collectible from Disney’s Days of Christmas.

3.  Picture frames.  I take a TON of pictures at the parks. I make sure that at each park , we get our family picture in front of the icon of the park.  You know, Cinderella’s Castle, Spaceship Earth, The Tree of Life, and the Sorcerer’s Hat.  When we return home, I have a 5×7 of my favorite picture made and it goes in my Disney frame.  On our upcoming trip, another frame (or two) is on  my “souvenir list”.

4.  Disney jewelry.  At the World of Disney, you can find beads for Pandora charm bracelets.  I have a Cinderella coach and this year I’m hoping for a Minnie/Mickey head.

5.  Mickey ears and autograph books or pin lanyards.  Of course, the kids want something fun.  So, monogrammed Mickey ears and autograph books have become some of our kids’ favorite mementos.  Also, older kinds may enjoy pin trading.  I know our nine year olds are already talking about the pins they’re willing to trade and ones they hope to get this summer.  Why not add a new medal to their lanyard?  Pin trading can be a fun, ongoing souvenir.

Of course, clothing, stuffed Disney friends, and a Pirates of the Caribbean sword are super fun.  You’ll come home with a few “frivolous” souvenirs that eventually don’t last.  I want to look back at our souvenirs, knowing that they were chosen for the fun memories they’ll conjure up in the future.

What is your favorite souvenir at Disney?  Do you have any long lasting souvenirs from trips?

Magically Yours,

Carrie

To Downtown Disney or Not?

That is the question!

Are you on the fence about whether or not you want to make the trip downtown and explore? Here are some of my favorite places you’ll find at Downtown Disney that just might convince you:

The World of Disney
This is by far the largest souvenir store you’ll find on Disney property! It’s pretty much a Disney department store. The World of Disney is broken up into twelve different themed rooms, each featuring select merchandise. Any kind of souvenir that you could possibly get in Disney, you can find here! From home goods and plush toys to jewelry and apparel — it’s here. A few years ago, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique was built right in the World of Disney store. If you’re having trouble booking an appointment for your princess in the Magic Kingdom, try this location!

Disney’s Days of Christmas
One of my favorite things to bring home from any vacation is a Christmas ornament. This store is filled with tinsel, holly, lights, trees, and ornaments. From the second you walk into the door, you’re transported to a winter wonderland, any time of the year. You can even get ornaments personalized with your name or the year of your trip.

Eateries
Forget the shopping. If I’m going to be completely honest, I come to Downtown Disney for the food! A couple of my favorite places to eat and snack are found here. If you’re on the dining plan, don’t miss Wolfgang Puck Express — it is probably one of the best values on property for a counter service meal. The portions are huge and the food is gourmet! My favorite place to grab a sandwich can also be found here: Earl of Sandwich. The sandwiches are warm, savory, and bursting with flavor.

The final place I recommend is a place I dream about when I’m not in Disney: Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. The sundaes are to die for!

To Downtown Disney or Not?

If you have a few hours to spare on your next trip, stop by Downtown Disney. There is so much to do and see that it’s worth your time. And don’t forget — stop for some ice cream!
