Disney Janitors Strike After 70 Workers Laid Off
United Service Workers West voted to authorize a strike and protested outside the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank if Disney fails to rehire all workers. The security officers and janitors currently work for contractors who clean landlord and corporate tenant offices. Over the last 10 years, workers have gained health care benefits and increased their wages above.
Disney does not guarantee that the workers will keep their jobs or benefits when a cleaning service provider takes over next week.
SEIU United Service Workers West currently represents more than 40,000 airport service workers, security officers, janitors and other property service workers in California. There are more than two million members in North America.
Disney has stated that the 68 impacted workers have been offered comparable positions to their current jobs with Able Service, the largest privately held buiding services provider in the United States. Able currently services other Disney locations and has a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU United Service Workers West.

Disney Princess Toy Maker Pays Large Fine
Horizon Group USA, makes of “Disney Princess” jewelry kits in California has agreed to pay a $225,000 fine for selling deceptively packaged items. Horizon would not admit any wrongdoing and the District Attorney’s Office has said that there is no evidence to suggest Horizon intended to defraud consumers.
A Chula Vista woman complained when her daughter bought a “Disney Princess” jewelery kit with her saved money and was ”crushed” when she opened it and it was only half full. The packaging depicted a full kit and this is where the fine comes in to play.
Horizon has agreed not to sell the kits any longer in California and have pulled thousands from store shelves.

Being a Fake Federal Agent Will Not Get You Free Admission Into Epcot…
A 74-year old Florida resident, Emerito Pujol, tried to sneak into Disney World’s Epcot Center last Saturday without paying admission by claiming he was a federal agent. Pujol showed up at the ticket entrance of Epcot and showed an employee a badge and said he was an undercover officer who was looking for someone.
After security was called to further investigate the suspicious story; Pujol allegedly claimed that he was actually there to provide protection for someone important. Police were then called to the scene where Pujol decided to admit to officers that he was only pretending to be a federal agent in order to avoid paying the $94.79 cost of entrance. Police then found that his badge that he was flashing around was an “honorary member” badge from the American Federation of Police, a nonprofit organization.
Pujol has been arrested and is now facing felony charges for impersonating an officer of the law.
