The Muppet Movie: The Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition Coming August 2013

The Muppet Movie: The Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition is coming to Blu-ray August 13, 2013. Disney has announced that the original “The Muppets Movie” from 1979 will be released on Blu-ray for the first time this August to celebrate the film’s 35th anniversary. Since the 35th anniversary isn’t actually until 2014, the movie is titled “the nearly 35th anniversary” since the release will be a little early. The Blu-ray release will also include a digital copy, but will not come with a DVD version of the film.

Fourth Season of Good Luck Charlie Premieres With a Special Performance by The Muppets

Season four of Disney Channel’s hit family comedy “Good Luck Charlie” premieres SUNDAY, APRIL 28 (7:30-8:00 p.m., ET/PT) with a special performance by Disney’s “The Muppets”. Guest stars Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal join series stars Bridgit Mendler and Leigh-Allyn Baker to perform a show-stopping, Muppet-ational original song.

In the premiere episode, the Duncan Family decides to build their dream house after the family home is devastated by termites. Everyone, with the exception of Charlie, is excited at the prospect of a new and larger home. However, Teddy has a change of heart after a dream in which Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal convince her that the old family home is really the house of her dreams. The episode’s original song “Dream House” is written by Grammy and Emmy-award winning Adam Schlesinger (“That Thing You Do,” “Fountains of Wayne,” “Tony Awards”) and produced by Schlesinger and Steven M. Gold (“Saturday Night Live,” “The Colbert Report”).

Walt Disney Studios has just announced a slew of new release dates for their upcoming slate of films, as well as 3D announcements for two of the upcoming Marvel Studios films, and a cancellation of one 3D re-release.

‘The Muppets 2′, which is rumored to be titled ‘The Muppets…Again’, will be released March 21, 2014.

‘Maleficent’, the new Angelina Jolie starring take on the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ story has been moved to July 2, 2014.

‘!952′, Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof’s mystery science fiction film, will be released December 19, 2014.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ will set sail July 10, 2015.

Both ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will be released in 3D. Both films are still set for April 4, 2014 and August 1, 2014, respectively.

As for the re-release of ‘The Little Mermaid 3D’, it has now been pulled from the schedule altogether, and looks like it could have possibly been cancelled.

Ricky Gervais Set to Join ‘The Muppets’ Sequel

Ricky Gervais Set to Join The Muppets Sequel

Here’s another reason to get excited about the new Muppets film. Last week we learned that ‘Modern Family’ star Ty Burrell was set to co-star in the film, playing an Interpol agent in the film, but we weren’t sure how big of a part he’d be playing. But we could possibly have our leading man now, because Ricky Gervais is in talks to star in the film. Not much is known about his character at this time, but he will be the lead human in the film, being our eyes and ears into the crazy world of the Muppets. He’ll be one of the three major human characters in the film, including Burrell as the “lazy Interpol Agent”, as we’ve learned. With two of the three major roles cast in the last two weeks, I’m sure we’ll be hearing who the third actor to take on the role will be fairly shortly.

I’m a huge fan of Gervais, he’s done some amazing work on television and film, and I’m a huge fan of the original version of ‘The Office’, which he starred in and created. He’s a huge fan of the Muppets, so having him come on board makes sense, especially following Jason Segal, who was also a self proclaimed Muppets enthusiast. The thing that makes this kind of funny is that Gervais originally shot a cameo for ‘The Muppets’, which was actually deleted from the film, and you can see on the blu-ray and DVD. I would have loved to have seen left in, just to see him interact more with the Muppets, but now I don’t have to worry about that because I can see him in a whole film acting along side them! There really isn’t a better leading man choice, at least in my eyes, to pick up where Segal left off, and I’m really glad to see Disney going to him. This movie just keeps shaping up to be better and better.  ’The Muppets’ sequel is currently untitled and has no release date, but will begin filming next year.
