Parents of tweens and young “fashionistas” on the hunt for the latest back-to-school fashions can now enjoy designs inspired by the style of their favorite Disney Channel characters such as Sonny Munroe played by Demi Lovato from Sonny With A Chance. Disney and Target today announce a new fashion line of apparel and accessories called “D-Signed,” available only at Target stores nationwide and Target.com on August 1st. Disney Consumer Products (DCP) collaborated with Target to deliver unique attire that can be mixed and matched for tween girls in sizes 4 to 16.
D-Signed is a departure from more general entertainment-inspired tween based clothing as these items do not portray the characters likeness, instead they’re inspired by their look and personality on the hit series— the items you would find in their closet. The fashion line and its mix-and-match versatility are featured in this new YouTube music video from Disney Living featuring Demi Lovato’s song “Me, Myself, and Time” directed by filmmaker Ross Ching.
“Tween girls want fashionable clothes that express their individuality and style but that moms approve of,” said Pam Lifford, executive vice president, global fashion and home, DCP. “Our D-Signed collection at Target brings it all together in a way that allows young girls to express their fashion sense with quality clothing at budget friendly prices.”
“We are thrilled to work with Disney on this fun and stylish program just in time for back to school,” said Trish Adams, senior vice president, Target. “The affordable line is perfect for our trendy tween guests that want to stand out in the crowd.”
The first installment of D-Signed is inspired by the personal style of the Sonny Munroe character from Disney Channel’s popular television series Sonny With A Chance. Ranging from $4.99 – $19.99, the Sonny Munroe “D-Signed” collection includes: embellished graphic tees, skirts, dresses, pants, knit dresses, shorts, fashion tops and jackets, headbands, necklaces and bags. This initial collection will be available for three months, followed by a second assortment of apparel and accessories from the Sonny Munroe collection available at Target just in time for the holidays. Future collections of D-Signed will include fashions based on the style of other popular Disney Channel characters including Alex Russo played by Selena Gomez on Wizards of Waverly Place.
Selena Gomez Is ‘Heartbroken’ About Ending ‘Wizards Of Waverly Place’ but Disney star tells MTV News she’s excited about upcoming projects, including a ‘Wizards’ movie, tour and ‘feel-good’ new album.
Selena Gomez has some bad news for fans of her popular TV series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” The Disney star reveals that when she heads back to set to the next season of the show — it will be her last. Gomez told MTV News she was sad to be saying goodbye. But when we caught up with her as she promoted another project, “Ramona and Beezus,” due in theaters July 23, she also had plenty to be excited about.
“Unfortunately, I’m doing my last season of my show, which I’m really heartbroken about,” the actress told us. “That’s gonna be a terrible time for me. I’m gonna do a movie for my show, which I’ll be excited to end it with, and then a tour.”
But fans shouldn’t be too broken up about the show ending. The teen star has lots in the works. In addition to the planned “Wizards” movie, she recently wrapped on the movie “Monte Carlo,” whose cast includes Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester. And Gomez is excited about releasing her next album, the follow-up to Kiss & Tell, which should be out later this year.
The adventures of young Ramona Quimby (newcomer Joey King) and her big sister Beezus (Selena Gomez) come to life in this all new film based on the best-selling books (over 30 million…and counting) by Beverly Cleary. Ramona’s vivid imagination, boundless energy, and accident-prone antics keep everyone she meets on their toes. But her irrepressible sense of fun, adventure and mischief come in handy when she puts her mind to helping save her family’s home.
John Corbett (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot) also star as Ramona and Beezus’ parents, Robert and Dorothy Quimby, while Ginnifer Goodwin (He’s Just Not That Into You) portrays the girls’ Aunt Bea, opposite Josh Duhamel (Transformers) as Bea’s former flame, Hobart. Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) plays Ramona’s third grade teacher, Mrs. Meacham.
Elizabeth Allen (Aquamarine) directs from a screenplay by Laurie Craig and Nick Pustay. Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan produce for Fox 2000 Pictures and Walden Media. The cinematographer is John Bailey, ASC; Brent Thomas is the production designer; and Jane Moran is the editor. Co-producer is Brad Van Arragon. Music is by Mark Mothersbaugh, and the music supervisor is Julia Michels.
First published over 50 years ago, Beverly Cleary’s books have entertained several generations of readers. The cast and filmmakers of the first major motion picture based on Cleary’s series — RAMONA AND BEEZUS — typifies the books’ cross-generational appeal. The film’s Ramona, Joey King, began reading the book series before she was cast in the role. Selena Gomez, the on-screen Beezus, had read the books in elementary school. “I love how Beverly writes the characters,” says the popular singer-actress. “We wanted to do justice to Beverly and her work, and to make her proud. We all did our homework and worked really hard to be true to the characters. I think this movie is going to be a fun family experience.”
Ramona and Beezus stars Selena Gomez, Joey King, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bridget Moynahan, John Corbett.
Ramona and Beezus will be released in theaters July 23rd, 2010 by 20th Century Fox.
