Glass Slipper Challenge for 2014 RunDisney Announces New Race

With the success of the marathons at all the Walt Disney World parks, and the huge excitement over the new Dopey Challenge for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, runDisney has released a new run for the Princess Half Marathon Weekend and new medal.

Beginning next year a new 10k will be added along with a new two-race challenge. The Disney Princess Enchanted 10k and Glass Slipper Challenge will help princesses bring their running dreams to reality.

“The Disney Princess Enchanted 10K will give you a new opportunity to participate in a timed run during the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. And if you’re looking for an even bigger challenge, sign up for the 10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday (19.3 miles total) to earn the inaugural Disney Glass Slipper Challenge Medal, accompanied by each of the medals from the individual races.  New for 2014, the Princess Half Marathon Weekend will expand to February 20-23 and include an additional day for the Expo.”

Four Theme Parks and 48.6 magical miles!

Runners can enter one (or any combination) of the runs that have been scheduled, for a truly magical experience through the parks. They have opened up the event this year to include an all new event, The Dopey Challenge.

The 2014 Disney Marathon Weekend, Jan. 8-12, will expand to five days and will include a 10K, along with the Family Fun Run 5K, the Disney Half Marathon, the Disney Marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge. That creates the opportunity for an unparalleled proposition in the running industry: The Dopey Challenge – running all four timed events in successive days (48.6 miles) for the chance to earn an unprecedented six medals.

runDisney Hosts Most Magical Meet-Up Yet for 20th Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

runDisney Hosts Most Magical Meet Up Yet for 20th Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

In celebration of the 20th Walt Disney World Marathon presented by Cigna, runDisney hosted its biggest social media meet-up yet Friday at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort.

After a magical welcome from Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy, who each have a marathon medal designed after them, the group embarked on a 2.5-mile run through Hollywood Studios. The group got a unique look at Hollywood Studios during sunrise as they passed iconic attractions such as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster before finishing at the Lights! Motors! Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Along the run, Disney characters such as Pluto, Minnie Mouse and Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz Lightyear, surprised the group for photo opportunities.

On set at Lights! Motors! Action! meet-up guests had the opportunity to interact with celebrities and athletes. Drew Carey and Joey Fatone entertained the guests with stories about their running experiences, and Carey also spoke about his passion for runDisney races. The group was treated to running tips from a special panel of running legends including Joan Benoit Samuelson, Bill Rodgers, Desiree Davila, Bart Yasso, Jeff Galloway and Dick Beardsley. The meet-up also featured special guests from New Balance who spoke about the specially-designed runDisney shoe and former NFL player Eddie Mason, who is working with Cigna, the marathon’s presenting sponsor, to promote health and wellness.
