Top 10 Ways Walt Disney World Has Spoiled Me

Top 10 Ways Walt Disney World Has Spoiled Me

Walt Disney World is an escape from reality, my own personal Neverland if you will; and ever since my first visit, the real world and other vacations I have taken have failed to measure up! To put it simply, Walt Disney World has spoiled me! How? Read for yourself my top 10 ways and maybe you will find that you’ve been spoiled too!

10. Permission to Behave Like My Kids-Disney World has taught me that skipping, screaming, pointing, and wearing Mouse Ears is perfectly acceptable no matter age you are. Seriously, no one bats an eye if they see a middle-aged businessman wearing a hat and dreadlocks like Captain Jack Sparrow at the Magic Kingdom; but back in the real world, I’ve discovered that such behavior is frowned upon. Weird, right? Yeah, I don’t get it either.

9. Christmas Lights-If you have ever been to WDW around Christmas, you know what I’m talking about here! This is especially true if you have witnessed the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! This is seriously one of the best lighting displays ever which has been synchronized to music and features artificial, falling snow! Ever since I saw this awesome holiday display for myself, any other Christmas lights display I’ve seen since simply hasn’t compared.

Spending Christmas Day at Walt Disney World

Spending Christmas Day at Walt Disney World

Spending Christmas Day at Walt Disney World?  For many this is a once in a lifetime trip, for others a family tradition.  Either way, if you find yourself at Disney World at Christmas, here are a few tips for events and dining.

The Magic Kingdom is definitely the place to be on Christmas.  Prior to the holidays you can enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.  However on Christmas Day, the park is one big party.  Be forewarned, the crowd level at this park on Christmas Eve and Day is the highest all year.  Often the park will be closed within hours of opening because they are at capacity.  If you brave the crowds, you will be rewarded with amazing holiday decorations and atmosphere.  The parades are Christmas themed as are the fireworks.  Cinderella’s castle is covered with a layer of LED snow and icicles.   While all restaurants are open for Christmas, many with holiday features, the following offer a special Christmas meal (don’t forget your reservations):

I’m not sure about you, but in my community, Christmas decorations are going up faster than you can say “Jolly old Saint Nicholas”!!! I passed by a house the other day that was literally covered, as in every last square inch of real estate, in Christmas decor.  There were inflatable, lights, yard stakes, fake trees, and more.   We even have a house a few neighborhoods over that has synchronized lights.  Seriously, you can flip to a radio station and watch the show.  They even have a fund set up for onlookers to donate money to a local charity!  I love that!  But, for me, when I try to do all of that it just ends up looking like…well, like a mess!  I find that displays of that proportion should be left to the professionals.

The best I’ve ever seen is The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  This mammoth Christmas display is a one of a kind winter wonderland.  When it comes to this display, more is more!  That is why I love to be an onlooker rather than the one doing all that work!  I think a lot of people probably write off this light display as something just worth a walk through.  It is SO much more than that.  This holiday attraction is truly unique and will leave you with a sense of childlike wonder.  Today, I’m painting the picture for a perfect night of Christmas magic on the Streets of America in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Make it dinner and a show

I strongly encourage you to “make a night of it” when visiting The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.  Don’t rush through at the last-minute!  Take time to make the night all about enjoying this awesome show!  I say if you have the opportunity, make reservations for an early dinner in Hollywood Studios, leaving the night open to soak it all in.  There are a lot of good restaurants to choose from in Hollywood Studios.  I really like Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano! Located near the Streets of America, this restaurant boasts traditional Italian food, drinks, and desserts and will put you right in the action!  If you can’t make dining reservations, there are plenty of yummy quick service spots, like Toy Story Pizza Planet that will let you eat, drink, and be merry!
