‘Lincoln’ Blu-ray Review

Lincoln Blu ray Review

Steven Spielberg is one of those directors who can do anything. It seems for every fun adventure film he makes, he follows it up with a more serious film, usually something of historical nature. Following up with ‘The Adventures of TinTin’, Spielberg decided to delve into two very different historical tales.

The first was ‘War Horse’, based on the British novel of the same name, that followed the life of a horse through WWI, and all the men whom he came across in his life. It was a truly wonderful film, one that was enjoyed very much by audiences, but Spielberg wasn’t done with his historical epics yet.

For years, Spielberg had been working on a film about Abraham Lincoln, and he never lost sight of that. It took years of development, which saw the change of Liam Neeson to Daniel Day-Lewis in the role of Lincoln, but one that was worth the wait. Based on the novel Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln’, which deals with Lincoln’s last four months of life, when Lincoln tried passing the Thirteenth Amendment. The film is a star studded ensemble, including Daniel Day-Lewis in his Oscar Winning role as the Sixteenth President, as well as Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and James Spader. A film of this magnitude deserves a strong blu-ray package, and I’m glad to say that Disney has given the film one. Featuring some excellent special features, as well as perfect audio and video, Disney has made this blu-ray a must own.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ Comes to Blu-ray and DVD March 26, 2013

Steven Spielbergs Lincoln Comes to Blu ray and DVD March 26, 2013

One of my favorite films of last year was Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis in his Academy Award winning performance as the sixteenth Presiden of the United States. I always enjoy Spielberg’s historical epics, and ‘Lincoln’ was no different. The film, based on the novel, ‘Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln’, which explored the framing of the thirteenth amendment, and the last few months of his life. It’s a truly moving excellent film that explores a part of the history of the United States that isn’t always touched on.

The film features an impressive cast that includes Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and James Spader, all who give some of their finest performances to date. I’ve been looking forward to getting a chance to re-watch this film, so I’m excited to see that Walt Disney Studios will be releasing the film on March 26, 2013, on blu-ray and DVD. There will be a four disc Ultimate Collector’s edition, two disc blu-ray edition, and a single one disc DVD version. Hit the jump to see the differences between the different releases, as well as a trailer for this two time Academy Award winning film.

LINCOLN Spurs Educational Campaign

All Middle and High Schools Across the U.S. to Receive DVDs of Steven Spielberg’s film as Part of Education Outreach

Jim Berk, Chief Executive Officer of Participant Media, announced Monday that Steven Spielberg’s critically acclaimed film, LINCOLN, will be distributed to all middle and high schools, both public and private, throughout the United States when the film becomes available on DVD. Participant Media, DreamWorks Pictures and Fox/Newscorp are funding the unparalleled effort with Disney In-Home creating the packaging and Disney Educational Productions handling distribution.

Participant Media conducted a standard research study for LINCOLN prior to the film’s release, which revealed that more than half of Americans think it’s important to learn about Lincoln, but two-thirds say they know little to nothing about him. This clearly indicates a need to better educate our nation’s students about the 16th president’s accomplishments. The tremendous positive response the film has received from educators, politicians, historians and the general public testifies to the fact that an understanding and knowledge of history can be an enlightening and powerful tool for all Americans.

America Celebrates Lincoln with 7 Golden Globe nominations

America Celebrates Lincoln with 7 Golden Globe nominations

DreamWorks Pictures announced today that “Lincoln,” directed by Steven Spielberg, will hit $100M at the domestic box office today, 34 days from its initial exclusive release in 11 theaters on November 9. With its relevancy and riveting storytelling, the powerful film has resonated with American audiences across a wide demographic, drawing in moviegoers from teens to senior citizens.

“Lincoln,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, has steadily delivered strong performances to hit the $100M mark today. To support audience demand, an additional 271 theaters will be added Friday, bringing the total number of theaters to 2285.

Today, “Lincoln” received seven Golden Globe® nominations—more than any other film this year and more than any other Spielberg film. In addition to best picture drama and best director nods, the film was nominated in the best actor, best supporting actor and best supporting actress categories as well as best screenplay and best original score categories.

Yesterday, “Lincoln” garnered SAG Award® nominations for outstanding performances in the leading role and supporting role categories for male actor and in the supporting role category for female actor as well as a nomination for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.

Earlier this week, “Lincoln” received a record-setting 13 nominations for the 18th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards from the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA). This is more nominations than any film has ever received from BFCA.

In addition, both the New York Film Critics Circle and the Boston Society of Film critics honored Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field and Tony Kushner with awards.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy comments on the success of “Lincoln”: “It was a 12- year struggle to get this film made. We are humbled and gratified to receive these nominations and to see how audiences have embraced it. To see this film cross $100 million after we were continually discouraged from making it, is beyond what we could have ever hoped for. “

Many critics have responded to the political relevancy of “Lincoln.” Joe Klein in Time says, “Suddenly it seems as if everyone in the political world is talking about Steven Spielberg’s splendid film ‘Lincoln.’”

Ruth Marcus at the Washington Post states: “President Obama hosted a screening of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ at the White House the other day. He should do it again—and again and again. ‘Lincoln’ is exquisitely crafted and even more exquisitely timed.”

And David Brooks in the New York Times comments, “I hope everybody who shares this anti-political mood will go out to see ‘Lincoln,’ directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Tony Kushner. The movie portrays the nobility of politics in exactly the right way.”

“Lincoln” is a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

From DreamWorks Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox, in association with Participant Media, “Lincoln” is directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner, based in part on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

“Lincoln” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
