Take the Wildlife Express Train at Animal Kingdom

When going to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park a great stop is the Wildlife Express Train. It is something fun to do whether it is raining or not and is often overlooked. It is found toward the back of the park in the Africa area behind the Tree of Life.

If you want to get out of the sun or someone in your group loves animals consider this option. If anyone in your party is not interested  in rides or is ready for a break this is the place to go. If you have a little one that’s not quite ready for rides then this is a perfect location. Catching a ride on the train usually doesn’t take long. The seats are designed for guests a look straight to the land beside them as they travel. It is something for the whole family with the train ride lasting about seven minutes.

During your journey you will be able to see animal housing as well as animal care units while Disney magic transports passengers to the African Savanna. You travel to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the train ride is the only way there. This location is dedicated to animal conservation and preservation complete with educational activities.

Habitat Habit!

This is a wildlife trail presenting guests, while on the walk, the opportunity of observing the cotton-top tamarin, which are South American monkeys.

Affection Section

Is more than a petting zoo  — it is a Disney World petting zoo. Various animals include sheep, llamas, donkeys, goats, and chickens. Actually, this is the only location in Animal Kingdom that gives guests this opportunity. Just keep in mind flash photography is not permitted. Don’t worry either about petting all those animals because sanitation stations are available for hand washing.

Conservation Station

This is an air-conditioned building that gives guests a chance to see animals and learn more about them. It is an open area with various activities including a self-guided tour backstage with video cameras  for real time animal viewing. Adults and children can also find it interesting when learning about how the animals are cared for with a look at the working veterinary clinic. Visiting the Conservation Station is good any time of day, but if you are really interested in seeing animal care consider venturing here in the morning. Most care happens before Noon with a schedule generally posted. If you have questions Cast Members are available to provide answers too.

Another benefit of this location are character greetings. Various characters have made appearances including Pocahontas, Terk, Lilo and Stitch. Many guests have been disappointed to learn Jiminy Cricket will no longer be appearing as it was the only location throughout Disney World to find him. The main character continues to be Rafiki though. Since this is often an area less traveled you can usually catch characters with little or no waiting, giving you quality time with the character. Check with cast members when entering the park and ask about who is appearing and when they will be available.

The Avatar expansion is beginning preparation with the idea of closing the train and Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Nevertheless, part of the charm of this area is you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the park’s bigger elements. This is really more than a train ride. When leaving this area it is a five minute train ride back to the rest of what Animal Kingdom has to offer.

“UP” Characters Will Meet n’ Greet at Animal Kingdom

Jiminy+Cricket 225x300 UP Characters Will Meet n Greet at Animal Kingdom %tag

Most of you have already heard about the character situation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom…many of the characters are no longer going to be doing meet n’ greets at the popular character locations. When we heard this news there was no rumor of who would take the place of whom, but on the heels of what I can only assume was a huge backlash, Disney has thrown us a bone and announced that the characters from Pixars “UP” will soon be joining our friends at Animal Kingdom for meet n’ greets.

For some of you, Carl Fredrickson and Dug won’t ease your pain over the loss of Jiminy Cricket but the good news is at least it seems we might not be loosing as many characters as we thought…perhaps they are just relocating and bringing in fresh faces. Ok, that’s mostly probably a lie but I’ll miss Jiminy too!

This coming week Jiminy Cricket, Pochahontas, Turk, Lilo and Stitch will say goodbye to the Animal Kingdom. Along with the character loss “The Adventure Begins” welcoming show and the “Adventurers Celebration Gathering.”

With the Help of Ocean Spray, Gary Walks Guests Through the Cranberry Bog at Epcot

A new feature of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is letting guests get “bogged” down during a visit to the park. (And that’s a good thing!). Our friends at Ocean Spray have brought a cranberry bog display to the event as part of their ongoing commitment to educate consumers about the taste, health and heritage of the cranberry. And it’s quite fitting as we enter the fall season when cranberries are a big part of many family holiday dinners.

Today, our “Cranberry Correspondent” Gary takes a closer look at the bog, chats with Ocean Spray growers and learns how the popular berry is grown and harvested. Watch it all the way through and see how he becomes “immersed,” literally, in this story. The piece also marks the return of “Concerned Bystander” Rob, who always seems to be the “Jiminy Cricket” to Gary’s “Pinocchio” as he explores the parks.

Top 5 Disney Character Sidekicks

aladdin 500x375 Top 5 Disney Character Sidekicks %tag

Behind every Disney hero, you will find a loveable, and entertaining, sidekick. These Disney characters may not stand in the spotlight, but they are always loyal, provide comic relif, and often help save the day themselves! The Disney hero and their sidekick combo has been a winning formula for Disney movies for decades. Therefore, I’ve decided to give these overlooked Disney characters some attention in listing my Top 5 Disney character sidekicks! Check it out!

5. Gus & Jacque-While most girls run screaming at the sight of a mouse, Gus and Jacque were Cinderella’s faithful companions! These two sidekicks did all they could to help get Cinderella to the ball while battling the malicious cat, Lucifer, and actually ended up saving the day! It’s hard to think about Cinderella without these little guys. Due to their memorable moments and heroic actions, Gus and Jacque deserve a top spot as one of the best Disney character sidekicks. If you get the chance to dine at Cinderella’s Royal Table at Walt Disney World, look up to see Gus and Jacque still faithfully watching over Cinderella!

4. Timon & Pumbaa-This zany duo provided some hilarious moments and stole the show as Simba’s carefree friends in The Lion King. Their witty lines are unforgettable and who doesn’t know the lyrics to “Hakuna Matata?” These sidekicks are a part of pop culture! For all these reasons, Timon and Pumbaa are definitely some of the best Disney character sidekicks!

3. The Genie-This magical, and hilarious, sidekick has had us laughing since we first saw him in Disney’s Aladdin! Unlike other sidekicks, The Genie was the focus of the storyline as the main characters struggling for possession of his magic lamp and those three wishes! He was also different with his modern, pop culture references and the witty and outrageous voice talent of Robin Williams! Without a doubt, The Genie is one of Disney’s best sidekicks ever!

2. Tinker Bell-This feisty pixie first appeared as Peter Pan’s sidekick; but in the years that followed her debut, she became an icon for all things Disney with her trademark golden trail of Pixie Dust and appearance on the Wonderful World of Disney. Very few Disney characters have captured our hearts without ever uttering a word; but now that has changed! Tinker Bell now has her own movies where you can learn about her and her adventures; and now you can even visit her at Pixie Hollow in the Magic Kingdom! Her timeless popularity, spunk, and magic definitely earn her a spot as one of the top Disney sidekicks!

1. Jiminy Cricket-Brimming with integrity, this sweet little cricket captured our hearts when he appeared on screen in Pinocchio, became everyone’s favorite “conscience,” and sang that legendary Disney anthem, “When You Wish Upon a Star.” After Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket became another Disney icon. He even had his own shorts on the Mickey Mouse Club and today is the narrator of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom fireworks display, Wishes! Just like Tinkerbell, Jiminy Cricket is synonymous with Disney!
