‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′ Director Short List Revealed
It looks like the hunt for a director for the new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film is finally winding down. We’ve been hearing for some time now that a new ‘Pirates’ film was in development, with the most recent development coming from Jeff Nathanson being hired to write the script. But since then, news has been very quite on the film’s production, which left many wondering what was happening with the series. Most assumed that Rob Marshall, who directed the fourth installment in the series, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’, would be coming back to helm the fifth film in Disney’s lucrative franchise. But it seems that won’t be the case after all, because word is that Disney has narrowed its choices down to a few candidates, and Marshall’s name is not among them.

Disney Hires ‘Catch Me If You Can’ Screenwriter for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5′
It appears there’s some life left in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ franchise, or at least Walt Disney Studios is hoping there is. The popular franchise, based on the Disneyland attraction, is now four movies in, and apparently counting. Walt Disney Studios has hired Jeff Nathanson, the man who wrote the Steven Spielberg film ‘Catch Me If You Can’, which starred Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio, to pen the currently untitled fifth film in the series. This will be the first in the series that hasn’t been written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, which I think could actually be beneficial to the series. The movie is still set to be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and will once again see Johnny Depp dawn his pirates outfit as Jack Sparrow. Nothing else about the film is known at this time.
Walt Disney Studios Unveils the Full Trailer for ‘The Lone Ranger’
Not too long ago, Disney unveiled the first teaser trailer for ‘The Lone Ranger’, a new adaptation of the popular character. The film, starring Armie Hammer as John Reid, the man known as the Lone Ranger, and Johnny Depp as Tonto, his Native American sidekick, really seemed to have piqued the interest of many, but that was just the teaser. Disney has now released a full length trailer for the film, which gives us more of an idea of what we can expect from the film, including some more info on the story in the film.
I have to say, I’m liking a lot of what I see, which is great news. With all the problems the film faced before going before cameras, I had some doubts about how the film would turn out. But thankfully, it seems that Gore Verbinski, the director of the first three films of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise, Depp, and Hammer have really brought their A game, going all out to bring us the best movie possible. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this, so I definitely can’t wait for July 3, 2013 to get here. Hit the jump to check out the full trailer.
