Disney World Quick Tips – It’s Hokey and Goofy But It’s Still Fun
When I tell folks that I never miss the Country Bear Jamboree on a Walt Disney World visit the typical reaction happens. First there’s the condescending smile and the rolling of the eyes as if to say – oh well, he’s old and just reliving his childhood. Then you get the comments like it’s old and tired, the animatronics are ancient, the jokes are stupid, and the bears look like they have seen better days. I always answer each one of them with the same statement – I know, but I still enjoy it and that’s really all that counts. The music is lively, I know all the words, and I sing along with my beloved bears!!! Sure, that’s silly but humor me. Remember I’m old (at least that’s what the eye rollers and smilers seem to think) and I know what I enjoy.
Perhaps the best part of the show is the finale when all of the animals are lit up and singing at the same time. It’s not a Hollywood musical number but it’s very pleasant and just plain fun.
Next time you’re walking through Frontierland and headed for Liberty Square take a few minutes to go into the Air Conditioned theater and sit down for a fun show (and a little rest too). It may not be the highlight of your vacation but I think you will enjoy it. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

Disney Character Updates and News for January 2011
Walt Disney World
The main change at WDW this month is the start of the “Pixar Pals Countdown to Fun!” parade in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the 16th. This “new” parade will be a modified version of Block Party Bash with various changes including adding characters from Up and Ratatouille as well as removing the interactive show stops.
Also at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Leroy Small, Citizen of Hollywood, spent his last day on set this week. He has gone off to take his career to new heights somewhere else in the world. We wish him well, and thank him for his years of service entertaining Guests on Hollywood Boulevard.
The big upcoming change will be when Toon Town closes its doors for good in February. When that happens Mickey, Minnie, and the princesses will be moving to Expo Hall in Town Square. Since that location may not be ready in time they could be appearing randomly throughout the park until the work is complete. Tinker Bell is expected to move into the old Prince Caspian meet and greet location in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (near Pixar Place). The rest of the fairies may disappear for a little while; however, they are expected to show back up in Epcot once the Flower and Garden Festival begins.
Disneyland
Disneyland will be completely without a parade for a few months as the new (and awesome looking) Soundsational Parade will not be ready until at least March. With the Pixar Play Parade leaving DCA due to the ongoing construction there won’t be a true parade at Disneyland for now. Hopefully Soundsational wont be delayed any further and will start in March … we cant wait to see it!
The Disney Parks Blog are also offering a unique opportunity for fans to be able to vote for some rare characters (rare for California at least) to be featured at an upcoming family event there. Although an interesting idea, and one that will certainly get the character fans interested, I think they could have picked some cooler characters than the ones on offer. Check the official blog for more details.
Disneyland Paris
The most news this month comes from Disneyland Paris.
With the end of Christmas Season several special characters added for the season will be leaving at least temporarily. These include Rapunzel, Flynn, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca. At least Rapunzel and Flynn are expected to return in a few months as part of the new promotional year celebration. We really hope Darth Vader and Chewbacca will also return! We have heard that a few other rare characters will be added for the new “Disney Magical Moments Festival” including Huey, Dewey, and Louie who were recently seen at Disneyland Paris as part of a special event. We have also heard that some “new” characters will be featured in the central plaza show including possibly the Three Good Fairies from Sleeping Beauty.
In addition to the character changes there will also be a change for the parade. Disneyland Paris has been doing a lot of renovation recently in preparation for the upcoming 20th Anniversary. One major project they have started today is the replacement of the parade route walkway in Fantasyland. Since this will take several months to complete they are changing the parade route to go up Main Street, around the hub, and back down. Similar to what WDW did while they were replacing the Liberty Square bridge. To have the whole parade fit around the hub they are going to have to remove several of the larger floats while this is occurring. Once this work is complete the parade will return to its normal route and all the floats will return; however, when it does finally return the show stop will be changed and is supposed to be more “interactive”.
Finally, we have heard strong suggestions that DLP are gearing up to return the Tarzan show to the Chaparral Theatre in Frontierland this summer, after being absent for the last two summers. This will be a welcome return for the fans, who have recently been complaining that there is increasingly less and less show based entertainment on offer at the park. Of course, a lot of this is due to budget constraints, but it will be great to see a full stage show back in the park once again.
That is all the news for this month. As always you can find the latest Character news and information as well as lots and lots of photos at Disney Character Central!

Move over Tron 2 here comes Tron 3
Don’t get me wrong I love Disney as much as the next guy, but really? Tron Legacy is still in the theaters and still making decent box office dollars and the news on the street is Disney is working on a Tron 3 Movie.
Do we really new another sequel?
Screen Rant had this to say about the sequel:
TRON creator/producer Steven Lisberger revealed recently that development of storylines for TRON 3 has already begun and the story broke in mid-2010 that TRON: Legacy screenwriters/executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz had already been commissioned to write the threequel for Disney. As our Vic Holtreman pointed out in his TRON: Legacy review, the film is effective in its use of 3D and contains some stunning visuals, but ultimately “[it] is all about the eye candy, and not much else.” There’s little reason to suspect that TRON 3 won’t be more of the same, especially if it involves the same individuals that worked on Legacy.
Now I am a big computer nerd, anyone who knows me can tell you I live and breathe technology. But in all honesty I am getting tired of all these movie sequels from Hollywood. Where are the new ideas? It seems the only thing coming out of Hollywood is 3 things:
- Franchise Reboots
- Sequels
- Taking objects from my youth and turning them into movies. (I am still waiting to see more details on Battleship the Movie)
I know I might be going against the grain here and if you love reboots, sequels, and unoriginal ideas more power to ya. I for one would like to see more movies that are original, creative, and artistic.

Quick Eats – Greek Salad from Studios Catering Co. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
It was hot outside, as it often is in September, so I was looking for something cool and refreshing. Considering there aren’t a lot of great dining options at Disney’s Hollywood Studios I was limited to where I could go to satisfy my need for food. I decided to give the Greek Salad at Studios Catering Co. a try since it was a cold item option and I could easily find a seat right near the fan.
I have to things to say about that choice… bad idea. The salad appeared to have been made very early in the day, as the lettuce was soggy, the red onions were faded and not crunchy and the tomatoes were mushy, like they are when you cut them the day before and then refrigerate them. Sadly, the best part of the salad was the feta cheese and the kalamata olives that were strange in color, very faded. I hate to say it, but this was a counter service meal that I wish I had skipped. I should have gone next door and had a beer instead.
So if you are looking to find a bite of food at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that isn’t hot, I don’t recommend the Greek Salad at Studios Catering Co. Instead, maybe head to Starring Rolls for a cold sandwich.
