Special Military Rates on Disney Cruise Lines
There are few people more deserving in this world and I am glad Walt Disney World is continuing to find ways to honor them. In honor of the brave men and women who serve our country Disney Cruise Line is offering special military rates on select sail dates.
Military families need to reconnect and create memories more so than ever and now they can do this on a Disney Cruise for a special rate. Beginning December 17, 2012, the following will go into effect for all new bookings:
- Military personnel may book one stateroom under the military rates program.
- A second stateroom may be confirmed, if needed, to accommodate immediate family members only. For example, a family of two adults and four children may confirm two staterooms, based on availability, with the offer. Extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) do not qualify as immediate family members for the second stateroom.

Another Child With Cancer Hoping to Raise Money to go to Disneyland
Isbaella Coomber’s family has started to raise money to take their loved one to Disneyland from the UK. It is not a cheap trip but it is an important one, as Isabella has brain cancer and this may be her only wish granted.
When Isabella Coomber was 10 month’s old her family’s suspicions were aroused when she was unable to sit up without help. But doctors ran extensive tests and could find nothing wrong with the young child. Her family persevered and following more doctors visits and hospital visits Isabella was diagnosed last December with a cancerous brain tumor.
Jolene Hale, is Isabella’s mother and she said: “After meeting her cancer doctor, the first thing he told us was that most children with this tumour do not survive.
Only 1 in every 900,000 children get this. We were told she had a high grade tumour, which meant it grows fast.”
Layoffs at Disney Interactive
Last week, in what is being termed restructuring has more than 50 employees at Disney Interactive lost their jobs. As part of the online unit’s future plans to remain competitive in their industry, the action was deemed necessary. In January 2011, the division laid off approximately 200 employees, making this week’s round of layoffs the second in less than two years. The first round was called “a reorganization”.
The online unit is responsible for Disney.com and some other smaller properties, such as the Moms and Family property Babble, which was acquired by Disney last November, among others. These layoffs are only affecting the online unit at Disney Interactive. The Games group which is as well part of Disney Interactive, which develops video games like the popular Disney Epic Mickey franchise was not affected.
Disney Interactive’s online unit employees around 2,000 people, making the layoffs reduce the work force by about 3%. The terminated employees were given notice this week and it was completed this past Wednesday.

Dealing with Grief – The Christmas We Escaped to Disney World
After finishing several articles featuring Disney Holiday Planning, I got to thinking about our own Christmas Trip in 2010. We stayed the week before Christmas and left the day after. This was my families first time to Disney during the holidays, in fact the first time we had travelled somewhere during Christmas Day. But for us it was an escape from the real world. We just couldn’t face a “normal” Christmas after the year we had. The trip was bittersweet but I would like to share it with all our readers in the hopes that someone else can gain from our experience.
In 2009, My son Andrew had turned 2 and just returned from his first trip to Disney. We were glowing in the post-Disney euphoria of a perfect trip. Then we receive the news that my Father-in-Law had been diagnosed with lung cancer. A year followed with ups and downs, forgotten holidays, illness and fear of the unknown. To give us a break, we decided to take another trip to Disney for our sons 3rd birthday. My father-in-law was doing better and although prognosis wasn’t great, we felt he was in better spirits after a tough year. Within a couple of months of that trip we said good-bye to the person I affectionately called FIL.
