Disney Foodie Favorites – Lunch!
So far in our Disney Foodie Series we have covered Snacks and Breakfast! Today lets do Lunch! Once again lets break this down by parks, resorts and DTD plus by counter service to table service , because lets face it there’s waaaaay too many favorites to narrow it down to just one ![]()
First up Magic Kingdom~ My favorite counter service here in MK has never wavered, and that says alot because I am always open to new places and new taste. Columbia Harbour House, we have always liked anything we have got here over the years and always look forward to making a return. My favorite here is the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich, fresh, light and tasty just the way a sandwich should be! My son loves the Chicken Salad here and last time we split our meals and I have to say it was really good! I would recommend anything here fish, chicken or go crazy and try the lighthouse hummus sandwich! Plus try the upstairs seating, quiet and out of the way makes for a great break in the middle of the day!
My Foodie choice for a sit-down lunch in the Magic kingdom is the Liberty Tree Tavern. We always enjoyed the character dinners they had a few years ago and the Pilgrims Feast (Turkey Dinner) with all the trimming they served, but alas the characters are gone but the Pilgrims’ Feast thankfully remains! It was then we tried lunch here, while some ordered the pilgrims feast I went with the New England Pot Roast… Our Tavern Keeper’s Favorite and what a scrumptious dish this is! It was melt in your mouth good, the way good pot roast should be and this folks didn’t disappoint :) Also again if you are looking for something lighter and say even a little different give the Colony Salad a try, it not only has chicken and greens but crasins, apples and pecans a great salad for sure!
Should you visit Downtown Disney?
When visiting Walt Disney World, it’s not hard to get caught up in the excitement of the parks, rides, and attractions. When you’re on Disney property, you might feel like you’re “missing out” on what’s going on inside one of the parks if you’re not in them. You can’t help but think “I could be on Space Mountain right now!” or “I wonder if there’s a lot of people watching Illuminations tonight?” Maybe you feel guilty for leisurely strolling the shops or grabbing a bite to eat at Downtown Disney, but the days of feeling guilty are over!
I love Downtown Disney. I find it’s a great place to go to escape the chaotic atmosphere that can sometimes be present in the parks. It’s also free! I like to visit Downtown Disney on my travel days, so I don’t have to worry about wasting half of a ticket day. It’s also a great way bookend to a vacation — a great place to start to prep for the parks, and a great place to end your trip and purchase last-minute souvenirs.
Are you on the fence about whether or not you want to make the trip downtown and explore? Here are some of my favorite places you’ll find at Downtown Disney that just might convince you:
How I spent My Day In Downtown Disney
My family and I were lucky enough to spend a whole week in Walt Disney World a few months ago, and when we were planning the trip, we decided to save ourselves a little money and skip purchasing park tickets for one of the days – which left us free to enjoy all that Downtown Disney to offer (which is a lot!)
One great thing about Downtown Disney is if you plan on spending the day there, you can SLEEP IN!!!! That’s right, no 7am rope drop or mad dash to rides necessary here – as many of the stores and restaurants don’t open until 9am or later (9am may not seem late to some, but in the World of Disney vacations – 9am is heavenly!)
Making the Most of Counter Service Dining – Downtown Disney Area
By now, I’ve written how to make the most of your counter service dining at all the Disney theme parks. Now, it’s time for the Downtown Disney area. Downtown Disney is home to my all time favorite counter service dining location on property-Wolfgang Puck Express. While Downtown Disney can be a great place to grab souvenirs and use some snack credits, eating a meal at some of the following locations is also a must!
Wolfgang Puck Express-Wood fired pizza, pastas, salads….tortilla soup, sandwiches, even breakfast! This counter service location has a HUGE menu. Love it! Also, talk about variety. The pizzas can be made almost any way you’d like-bbq chicken pizza, margherita pizza, four cheese pesto pizza, my mouth is watering just thinking about eating there!
Earl of Sandwich Joins Downtown Disney District
Disneyland Resort today announced that Earl of Sandwich will open a new location at Downtown Disney in early summer 2012. The restaurant will offer guests a unique, casual-quick dining option while visiting Downtown Disney.“We pride ourselves in giving our guests a unique experience at Downtown Disney through different retail and food offerings,” said Tony Bruno, vice president of Resort Hotels and Downtown Disney. “This will be the only Earl of Sandwich in California and it is sure to be a favorite among our guests as it has been at Walt Disney World for nearly eight years.”
The new restaurant, which continues to have historical ties to the inventor of the sandwich, the Sandwich family, will be adjacent to AMC Theatres. Signature hot sandwiches will be available including The Original 1762, a sandwich of freshly roasted beef, sharp cheddar and creamy horseradish sauce all on freshly baked artisan bread. Soups, salads, wraps and desserts also are on the menu. Earl of Sandwich offers a vast array of hot and cold beverages including The Earl’s Grey Lemonade. Breakfast sandwiches and pastries will be available in the morning and a variety of catering options will be offered at this location.
“We are looking forward to the grand opening of our newest location at the Disneyland Resort,” stated Robert Earl, chairman of Earl of Sandwich. “The success we’ve experienced at Walt Disney World, Disneyland Paris and our other 15 locations has proven that the quality of our food and our dining experience will bring guests back time and time again.”
Earl of Sandwich joins approximately 50 retail, dining and entertainment venues that comprise Downtown Disney. Bridging the two theme parks and hotels, the 20-acre entertainment, dining and shopping district offers an eclectic experience that includes the World of Disney store, Build-A-Bear Workshop, ESPN Zone and House of Blues.
