Signature Dining at the Walt Disney World Resort
There is no denying the delight in Mickey waffles, Mickey shaped rice crispy treats and Mickey ice cream bars, but when it comes to dining at Walt Disney World, there are options for those with a bit more culinary prowess and its called signature dining.
Signature dining offers a more expansive menu than you will find at table service restaurants; with appetizers, entrees and desserts that feature Chef’s specialities.
If you are on the Disney dining plan, signature restaurants will take (2) table service credits per person. I find deluxe dining to be most beneficial when on the deluxe dining plan, which offers (3) table service credits per person, per night. You could have a signature meal every night without any out of pocket cost.
These fantastic food options await you at venues throughout the parks and at the resorts. This list includes all signature dining by location, with a brief description. To review the menu just click the link!
Animal Kingdom Lodge: Jiko (The Cooking Place)-Jiko overlooks the beautiful grounds of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, get to dinner a little early and walk around, the view of the Savannah is breathtaking and you have a pretty good chance of seeing the animals that wander there. The restaurant is very chic, with ambient lighting, dark rich African woods and tribal accents. The menu offerings are as broad as the savannah with African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.
BoardWalk: Flying Fish Cafe-Located on the BoardWalk this seafood lovers delight is full of whimsy and elegance. Watch the chef’s cook in the open kitchen setting or sit down for Chef’s Tasting Wine Dinner which offers a 6-course prix fixe menu, complete with wines chosen to compliment your courses.
Contemporary Resort: California Grill-Enjoy the view out of the floor to ceiling glass windows in your panorama from the top of the Contemporary Resort. Choose one of the rooftop walk outs to get a view of the parks from a bird’s eye view. If you dine during the fireworks shows, the decks offer a great view of Wishes, with the music piped in. You can also sneak a peek at Illuminations in Epcot!
The Grand Floridian: This deluxe resorts hosts two signature dining experiences: Citricos and Narcoossees. Citricos offers you a taste of the mediterranean with a unique hint of citrus and Narcoossees is the to-go place for surf and turf. Of the two dining rooms, Citricos has the more upscale feel while Narcoosses overlooks the water of Bay Lake and has comfortable nautical touches.
Wilderness Lodge: Artists Point-The “lodge feel” is eminent in this beautiful dining room with views of the “wilderness”. The murals and natural touches are reminiscent of dining rooms at National Park Lodges. The menu features steak, seafood and game items that can be paired with wines from Oregon, California and Washington State.
Yacht & Beach Club: Yachtsman Steakhouse-If you are craving an expertly cut selection of beef, Yachtsman is the place for you and offers the traditional steakhouse dishes you would expect. Side dishes like truffle mac and cheese, caesar salad and sauteed mushroom caps are the perfect addition to your steak, lamb, bass, chicken or pasta dish.
Magic Kingdom: Cinderella’s Royal Table-Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on a prix fixe menu fit for royalty. You will be greeted and treated like a member of the royal court and meet Cinderella and her princess friends at her castle. The atmosphere is one of a kind inside the castle and it’s something everyone should experience.
Epcot: LeCellier Steakhouse-The newest signature restaurant has been delighting the World Showcase for a long time, but recently became a signature dining experience offering new menu items, seasonal favorites and an expanded wine list. LeCellier also has a castle atmosphere but is very different than the view you’ll see from Cinderella’s Castle, because there is no view! You’ll find yourself in the underground of a Canadian castle with creamy yellow walls, rod iron fixtures and sturdy furniture. The canadian cheddar cheese soup is the favorite on the appetizer lists and you’ll find it hard to choose from the selection of beef, seafood and duck from the entree section.
Hollywood Studios: The Hollywood Brown Derby-Two words immediately come to mind “Cobb Salad”. The Brown Derby is famous for the cobb salad, which is made to feed two and will be mixed at your table. You’ll also find an atmosphere fit for a movie star and will find yourself searching for the celebrity caricatures that cover the walls.
Signature dining can also offer you exclusive experiences like dinner shows, which we’ll look at later on.
If your shorts fit a little tighter after you try signature dining…don’t say we didn’t warn you!

You will be entertained by the monorail that drives over the restaurant while the fabulous five visit your table for pictures and autographs. Top 5 Places to Find Unique Merchandise at Disney World
Many stores in WDW tend to sell the same type of merchandise. For shoppers, this can be frustrating; but fortunately there are a some stores in WDW that sell unique merchandise that is difficult to find anywhere else on property. Here are my top 5 favorite places to find unique merchandise at WDW.
- World Showcase: All of the shops found in Epcot’s World Showcase nations offer merchandise native to their individual countries. Here you can find souvenirs, candy, jewelry, perfume, and more from all around the world without ever leaving Florida! This location is a shopaholic’s dream!
- Grand Floridian Resort and Spa: Unlike other Disney Resorts, the Grand Floridian has a variety of shops that offer both typical merchandise you can find everywhere and unique merchandise. Our favorite items to purchase at Grand Floridian are Disney Dooney and Bourke bags and Grand Floridian bathrobes! With the variety of shops and different merchandise, this resort is a shopping destination within itself.
- Hollywood Studios: At the exit of many of Hollywood Studios attractions are gift shops selling unique merchandise reflecting the ride itself and its characters. For example, at the exit of Rock n’ Roller Coaster and Star Tours, you will find Aerosmith souvenirs and Star Wars merchandise! Tower of Terror also has a gift shop selling Twilight Zone products, Tower of Terror bathrobes, hotel keys, and other hotel items with the Tower of Terror logo! Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular also has a shop selling replica Indy hats, jackets, and posters around the corner from the show. Finally, one of our favorites is a little shack near the park’s entrance known as Sid Cahuenga’s. This shop sells film posters and autographed photos of major celebrities, past and present. It’s a definite stop for any movie buff!
- Test Track: After exiting Test Track, you will be ushered into a showroom where you can get a glimpse of new cars that have been released! Guests are free to even sit in the cars and peer through the windows; and there are individuals nearby to answer any questions you might have about the cars. Who knew you could car shop at Disney World? There is also a gift shop selling Test Track themed merchandise, as well as hats, t-shirts, and more displaying different auto brand logos. Ladies, this is one shopping destination that men will enjoy!
- Resorts: Disney’s deluxe resorts are known to have a variety unique merchandise that reflect their resorts that can’t be found anywhere else. Two of our favorites are Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Zwadi Marketplace and Wilderness Lodge’s Wilderness Mercantile. Zwadi sells great resort souvenirs, as well as carved animals, baskets, drums, and other African influenced items. Wilderness Mercantile sells great jackets and tees with the Lodge’s logo, as well resort artwork, carved souvenirs, natural beauty products, and plush characters in wilderness apparel.
So what are your favorite places to find unique Merchandise at Walt Disney World?

Disney to Build Luxury “Health Focused” Suites at the Contemporary Resort.
If you’ve ever wanted to combine the luxury of a spa retreat with your Disney World vacation, look no further: Disney is converting the entire 14th Floor of the Contemporary Resort into a spa retreat, complete with a private yoga studio, concierge service, and special health-conscious menus. In addition, guests can book one of 23 rooms on that floor, which will be furnished with exercise equipment, low-allergen pillows and mattresses, massage tables, and bamboo floors.
The refurbishment at the Contemporary is part of a pilot project, so if this is a success, expect more changes at your favorite deluxe resorts. Guests should be able to experience these rooms by November of this year. In addition to the Contemporary, Disney is refurbishing dozens of rooms at the moderate resorts into “princess” themed rooms in order to keep guests from moving from the moderates to the Animation Suites when they open.
Lots of big resort changes coming in the next year! We’ll keep you posted.

Discounts: Military Rates Extended; AP Rates For Summer 2011
Yesterday, Disney announced that they’re extending military discounts through the end of September 2012. If you are an active-duty or retired military member, you qualify for discounts up to 40% off rooms and for deeply discounted tickets. See your travel agent or call Disney directly.
Be careful with this discount–you’ll need to ask for it, as with all discounts. In my experience, it’s the one that often falls through the cracks because it’s not all that well publicized. Make sure you tell your travel agent or the cast member you speak to at Disney reservations that you qualify.
Next, summer rates for annual passholders were announced this morning:
Tiered Resort Savings: (June 3 – 14, 2011):
* Save 15% on Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campsites
* Save 20% at Disney’s Value and Moderate Resorts
* Save 25% at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Polynesian Resort
* Save 30% at Deluxe (excluding Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Polynesian Resort)
* Save 35% at Disney Deluxe Villa Resort
Tiered Resort Savings: (June 15 – August 13, 2011):
* Save 15% on Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campsites
* Save 20% at Disney’s Value and Moderate Resorts
* Save 30% at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Polynesian Resort
* Save 35% at Deluxe (excluding Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Polynesian Resort)
* Save 35% at Disney Deluxe Villa Resort
Email me for blackout dates and book-by dates. If you have an existing reservation, you can have this rate applied to it, generally without penalty.
