Is Downtown Disney a Disney Must Do?

Is Downtown Disney a Disney Must Do?

So many people seem to think that Downtown Disney is only shopping and true, there is allot of shopping to be had here, but there is so much more! From movies and bowling to food and entertainment!

Food for one is a big part, we seem to always schedule a trip to DTD by where we want to eat…If you are just here to shop till you drop and want to grab a quick snack then you could choose from Pretzels and Fried Candy Bars at Wetzel’s Pretzels and Cookes of Dublin or how about candy and sweets galore then stop at Goofys Candy Company, the Candy Cauldron or Ghiradelli Soda Fountain, they should do the trick.

Disney Theme Park in St. Louis? Well Almost!

Disney Theme Park in St. Louis? Well Almost!

Alright, Disney fans, store this in the back of your head for that Jeopardy Daily Double question.  Back in 1962, Walt Disney himself was in the process of negotiating a Disney Theme Park  in St. Louis, MO.  What could have been?

Walt Disney was approached by the organizers of the St. Louis Bicentennial.  Their request was that he produce a film about the city.  So impressed was Walt with the newly expanding downtown area and the almost complete Arch, he had a better idea.

With inspiration from his Missouri roots, Walt began plans for Riverfront Square.  The location was planned about two blocks from Busch stadium.  The five-story all indoor attraction would be topped off with an atrium ceiling.  Complete with simulated weather and time of day.  The project was on the table from 1963 to 1965 and Disney Imagineers got pretty far in their planning.

For Blueprints and Computer animations, watch the video in the St. Louis News (KSDK) article by clicking here.

Downtown Disney Offers More Than Just Shopping And Restaurants!

Downtown Disney Offers More Than Just Shopping And Restaurants!

Downtown Disney is known for its wide variety of shopping and restaurant options, but did you know that it offers a lot more than just food and stores? It’s really an entertainment complex, offering so many things to do that you could spend a whole day there and not even come close to experiencing all the fun!

Here are some of the unique things you can do at Downtown Disney:

Catch A Movie: the AMC movie theater offers all the new releases, and also has a bar/lounge area you can relax and grab a drink in while waiting for your movie time. If you are wanting to do dinner and a movie, the theater offers a unique chance to experience both at once – with their Fork and Screen theaters. Fork and Screen is a movie theater that is also setup as a restaurant, with an extensive menu including appetizers, salads/sandwiches/pasta and desserts. You might think dining while trying to watch a movie would be distracting – but it’s not at all, the servers are very stealth-like, and the discrete call button lets you summon your waiter/waitress without disturbing others. It’s a fun way to spend a relaxing evening full of drinks, dinner, and entertainment!

Go Bowling: Splittsville will be opening soon in Downtown Disney, and will be offering bowling, billiards and some delicious eats as well! It will have a very retro, 60′s bowling alley feel to it, with late night age restrictions that will turn the family friendly by day establishment into a more upscale adult environment at night. Bowling is a great group activity, and a fun way to have a little healthy competition too – it will be a great addition to the Downtown Disney area, giving you a place to hang out and relax away from the hectic pace of the Parks.
