Howdy Folks, Come along to Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne

Howdy Folks, Come along to Disneys Hotel Cheyenne

Did you know there is an old western town, a ghost town of sorts, just on the outskirts of Disneyland Paris? It’s Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne and the theme is loads of fun. Walt Disney himself always wanted to build a Western town in his park, and it’s nice to see this live on over at Disneyland Paris.

The Hotel Cheyenne is located between the Disney’s Hotel NY and Disney’s Sequoia Lodge. It is set back away from Lake Disney and hidden in the woods. The property shares a river with Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe.

It’s a nice walk though the wooded landscape from the Hotel Cheyenne to the Disney Village, Disneyland, and Walt Disney Studios.

If you are use to staying at Walt Disney World in Orlando, I would say this is similar to a moderate resort / Ft Wilderness.

The hotel theme is fantastic. It is literally an old western town with dusty old streets, a general store, watering hole, wash house and more. Exploring this resort is loads of fun.

The best part are the ponies. There is a place by the Chuck Wagon that little kids can take pony rides from down the dusty old streets of this western town. I could just image how much fun my two little girls would have doing that. It also makes for a fantastic photo.

Now in front of the Chuck Wagon is a fenced in stable of sorts. I have to assume this was a petting zoo, or pony stable or something when the resort first opened. This is in the middle of the main area that people gather. The disappointing thing is that now it’s filled with large inflatable balls that kids can climb into and roll around in. These balls look like something out of an Alien movie and they are in the center of this perfectly themed western town. It just does not fit. You can see what I mean here in my video. Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne Video

Downsides:

When I walked up to this ghost town after walking along the woodland path, I first thought it was an abandoned set of buildings. The grass is noting but weeds, and most of the area is dirt with patches of weeds growing. Some of the buildings need to be painted, or have some rotting wood trim if you look closely at some of the corners or backs. There are places in need of maintenance around the grounds and some of the building facades need painting. Also the purple directional signs that you see all over Walt Disney World, they have those at Disneyland Paris to lead you along the paths to each resort. Some of those signs are falling apart, or have not been cleaned in years.

The landscaping overall at all of the Disneyland resorts is not well maintained when compared to Walt Disney World or Disneyland in California. I don’t know if it’s lack of staffing or lack of funds or both, but when you walk around the grounds at Hotel Cheyenne and also at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe you can see that they are landscaped but not the immaculate grounds and care that you would see at a Disney World or Disneyland California resort.

Now weeds and dirt fit an old western town theme so you can kind of get away with some of the landscaping issues at the Hotel Cheyenne.

Update: Today I went to Hotel Cheyenne again (two days later) and their were ground crews out cleaning up the weeds and also some buildings has scaffolding going up to repaint. So there is work in progress which is great to see.

Disneyland Paris: Dine like a King at King Ludwig’s Castle

Disneyland Paris: Dine like a King at King Ludwigs Castle

King Ludwig's Castle at the Disney Village

If you have a prince or princess in waiting that is looking for a royal meal, stop by and see the king at King Ludwig’s Castle.

King Ludwig’s Castle is located at the Disney Village at Disneyland Paris.

I dined at King Ludwigs for lunch on a weekend and I walked right in. There was plenty of seating available as most guests are in the parks. Dinner I am sure can get crowded during peak seasons.

The castle environment is a fun theme. This would be a great place to take the kids. Now there is no show, no jousting, no wenches tossing food at you, just a good selection of meals to choose from.

Disneyland Paris: Dine like a King at King Ludwigs Castle

A look around the castle

The prices here are defiantly not cheap. I ordered a steak shish-kabob. Now this was one of the most expensive items and was around 25 Euros. I also purchased a large water, 1 liter, hey I was really thirsty. My total bill was 30 Euros. That is about $42 for lunch.

My meal consisted of one shish-kabob with steak and vegetables, a small cup of salad, and a side dish of golden brown cheese potatoes in a ceramic dish. I also had my also 5 Euro Vittel water.

Disneyland Paris: Dine like a King at King Ludwigs Castle

Good, but it was 24 Euros for the meal

Now my meal was good and I left satisfied, but $45 for lunch is not my personal style. I am sure I could have had something else for less and maybe that would have fit my budget and appetite.

Personally I would prefer something around 10 – 15 Euros total for lunch, which brings me to a suggestion. Today, Earl of Sandwich opens at the Disney Village and they will have sandwiches for about 6 Euros. That is fantastic and I love the Earl of Sandwich at Walt Disney World for the same reason.

Disneyland Paris: Resort Review Series – Hotel NY

I toured the Disneyland Paris Resorts (DLPR) this week and have put together a review, or more of a pictorial of these different unique resorts. The first resort I visited was Disney’s Hotel NY.

Disneyland Paris: Resort Review Series Hotel NY

Disney's Hotel NY Ice Skating Rink (uses fake ice)

To give you a little background about the Disneyland Paris Resort area let me explain a little bit about how the resorts are laid out. The majority of the Disney resorts are around Lake Disney. If you come to the DLPR via the RER A train from Paris you arrive right in the center of the action. To your immediate right is the Disney Village and just though the Disney Village is Lake Disney and Disney’s Hotel NY.

Disneyland Paris: Resort Review Series Hotel NY

You can walk to both Disneyland Parks from all the Disney Resorts, except from Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch which is a Ft. Wilderness like area with Cabins that is away from the main park.

So just like Disneyland you can walk from your Disney resort to all the entertainment options and parks.

Disneyland Paris Map

The first hotel you come to on Lake Disney is the Hotel NY. It is at one end of the rectangular shaped lake Disney and Disney’s New Port Bay Club is at the other end. The longer sides of the rectangular lake have the Disney Village on one side and the Sequoia Lodge on the other.

Disney's Hotel NY on Lake Disney

When you enter Disney’s NY Hotel from the back, lake side, you first see a large skating rink. The skating rink is made out of fake ice, sort of like the white plastic some cutting boards are made of. There are fountains close to the hotel entrance and modern architecture with earth tones and symmetrical square windows are prominent in the design. If you are familiar with Team Disney at Disney World, this building has a similar feel. The building is constructed to give a modern NY City skyline type feel while using earth tone colors.

I would consider this hotel a deluxe resort when compared to Disney World. The resort has several table service restaurants, a gift shop, indoor pool, and a convention center. I also want to mention that there is an indoor pool which I did not get photos of but will try to on my next trip to the resort.

The inside of the Hotel NY does carry the NY theme. There are large NY Mets and Yankees logos on the floor, framed artwork of NY landmarks and the different bars, restaurants and entertainment areas all are names after locations in NY.

The Main Lobby and Check in Area at the Hotel NY

I did not spend the night at the Hotel NY so I can not comment on the rooms. My overall impression is the hotel is nice, has a fun theme, is clean, and being a Disney resort hotel it put you right there in the action.

Now Prices in Paris are more than at Walt Disney World, so you should except to pay more for your room, meals, and other entertainment at Disneyland Paris.

It is difficult to not always compare Disney World and Disneyland in CA to Disneyland Paris. DLPR is different. I did not get that WOW factor when I walked in like you would get at the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, etc. It is not that the Hotel NY is not nice, it’s different because it’s in Paris. The hotel spaces are mostly one floor so you do not walk into an expansive lobby.

Disney Character News and Rumors for May 2011

Disney Character News and Rumors for May 2011

Walt Disney World

May is one of the two months of the year that WDW usually changes around characters and this May is no different. The big changes are at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where Lotso has left the animation building to make way for Winnie the Pooh once his meet and greet area is complete. Also, Phineas and Ferb will finally be making their debut; however, it sounds like it has been delayed until the end of the month. There may be other changes coming this month… normally some characters return for the summer months that are rare during the winter (Wendy for example). Another upcoming change will occur once the Flower Garden Festival ends when the fairies will most likely return to the Magic Kingdom; however, they will probably be located in the Adventureland Veranda where the Princesses were located before the Town Square Theater opened.

Disneyland

The main character related news for Disneyland is the upcoming debut of the Soundsational Parade! From concept art and some previews it appears it will be a great parade! Once again Disneyland will have a parade worthy of it.

Disneyland Paris

April brought the beginning of the Magical Moments festival and with it a number of new shows and happenings. This includes a new once a day hub show named “Mickey’s Magical Celebration” that includes Sorcerer Mickey, Genie, Fairy Godmother, Merlin and most of the Disney royal couples. Also included is a Peter Pan happening named “Follow the leader with Peter Pan” which features Peter, Wendy, Hook, Mr. Smee, and John Darling! One upcoming rumor is that Star ‘n’ Cars will lose its show element and turn into a more normal parade with show stops that will feature character interaction.

Tokyo Disneyland

Due to the earthquake it has been announced that several planned upcoming events have been canceled. Sadly this includes the night time summer programs as well as Halloween events in Tokyo DisneySea.

That is all the character news for this month. Be sure to visit Disney Character Central for all the latest character news and rumors!
