  • After a short break Lightening McQueen and Mater are meeting again daily at DHS with a new look for Cars 2
  • Also staying in DHS, Winnie the Pooh has replaced Lotso in the Art of Animation building and is appearing daily
  • Moving to the Magic Kingdom, sadly both Flynn Rider and Prince Naveen are no longer meeting regularly… there have been lots of people upset about this change so hopefully Disney will reconsider

  • Onto rumors, there are rumors that there will be changes to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties this year with potentially new characters! Currently it sounds like at least some of the characters in the Villains Mix and Mingle will change (currently Hades, Shan Yu, and Gaston are the mentioned as the possible new Villains). It is possible other character changes will occur for MNSSHP but haven’t heard what they might be yet
  • In addition to changes to MNSSHP there are also rumors that some older rarer characters may be around in Oct to celebrate WDW’s 40th Birthday

Disneyland

  • The Redwood Creek area in Disney California Adventure has received a theme change and now Russel and Dug from Up will be appearing there daily both for a mini show and a meet and greet!
  • Also in DCA Phineas and Ferb will start making appearances this month!
  • Tickets are now on sale for the Disneyland Mickey’s Halloween Treat Parties. These parties are similar to but smaller in scale to WDW’s MNSSHP but feature extra characters not normally seen in Disneyland

Disneyland Paris

  • Darth Vader and Chewbacca will be returning for the summer season
  • Also for the summer season the popular Tarzan Encounter show has returned to the Chaparral Theater after a two year hiatus
  • There are rumors that Donald’s nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie may be appearing during DLP’s Halloween and Christmas seasons this year… we hope this happens!

Tokyo

With summer season starting there will be several changes to the characters and shows that are around in Tokyo

  • The summertime castle stage show Cool the Heat is returning this year; however, the characters may be appearing in different outfits than last year
  • The Naminamina character cavalcade/show will be returning to both parks
  • Summer Oasis Splash will replace Chip and Dale’s Cool Service Deluxe but is expected to be similar (but possibly only will be in Mediterranean Harbor instead of traveling around the park)
  • Sadly not returning are the Bon Fire Dance and Midsummer Nights Panic from last year

That is all the character news for this month. Be sure to visit Disney Character Central for all the latest character news and rumors! Also this month on our site we have tons of new pictures from our most recent trip to Disneyland Paris and Disneyland where we saw tons of rare characters (many of which are new to the site) including the Robinsons and many of Stitch’s friends and cousins!

Disneyland ticket scammer arrested in Pleasant Hill, CA

Disneyland ticket scammer arrested in Pleasant Hill, CA

According to the Walnut Creek California Police Department:

The Walnut Creek Police Department recently investigated several cases of fraudulent Disneyland Park passes being sold on Craigslist. The suspect arranged to meet victims in person and sell them the passes at a discounted rate. A young female the suspect identified as her daughter always accompanied her when meeting victims.

The suspect often included a fraudulent receipt to show she had purchased the park passes. Victims usually paid several hundred dollars for the passes and only discovered they were fraudulent when they tried to use them at Disneyland. Walnut Creek PD has three confirmed cases involving the same suspect. The investigation uncovered two more victims in San Ramon and an additional two victims in Pleasanton. Officers from these three agencies identified Lisa Cassinelli of Pleasant Hill as the suspect in this case.

On 6/11/11 Walnut Creek officers served a search and arrest warrant at Cassinelli’s Pleasant Hill residence. Officers recovered additional Disneyland Park passes and information indicating there may be other unidentified victims of this scam. Most of the evidence indicates the victims are likely from Contra Costa County and the greater Sacramento area.

Cassinelli was arrested and is currently in the Contra Costa County Jail with a bail of $60,000.

If you or someone you know purchased fraudulent Disneyland passes from Cassinelli please contact your local police department or Walnut Creek PD Officer Gabe Mauro at 925-943-5844.

Disneyland Paris: The Disneyland Hotel Review

Disneyland Paris: The Disneyland Hotel Review

The Disneyland Hotel

Welcome to the Disneyland Hotel here at Disneyland Paris.

I have to start by saving that this Hotel is stunning. It is definitely the center piece of the Disneyland Park and is actually the entrance to the park itself. When you walk up this is the first sight you see, the beautiful gardens, ponds and water features, flowers and topiaries, and this magnificent Victorian Era Resort.

Underneath the resort is the entrance to Disneyland Park with covered ticket booths and a covered entrance making easy to get out of the sun or rain to enter the park.

Disneyland Paris: The Disneyland Hotel Review

There are several paths to explore and fantastic photo opportunities when you are walking up to the park. Have the time to explore all the nooks and crannies here was a great deal of fun, and I am sure most families with a limited day or two just run right by.

The resort is very much like the Grand Floridian from the outside and on the inside.

To the far right is the main lobby, you can enter the main lobby by car on the extreme right, or walk in from the ground level instead of going into the Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Paris: The Disneyland Hotel Review

The lobby has the same feel as the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World but on a much smaller scale. This was the only lobby at any of the Disneyland Paris resorts that gave me that “Wow” feeling when I entered. It is also the only lobby that was really built for more than just checking in and checking out people. It is still small compared to the Grand Floridian, but it is perfect for sitting and people watching while the rest of your party is getting ready back in the room for your day in the parks.

There is also a bibbidi bobbidi boutique of sorts just up the stairs tucked away as a temporary room on the first floor walkway.

This is a fun hidden extra spcial thing you can do for your own little Princess

The resort is basically three buildings. The Lobby building connects to the main center structure via an enclosed walkway on the top floor. You can get some views, not spectacular, from the park from these glass enclosed walkways between the buildings.

The main center building is the one you will see most photographed as it is the one you see when you walk directly to the park. It houses the majority of shops and restaurants.

The last building has access to the enclosed pool and spa area.

Disneyland Paris: The Disneyland Hotel Review

The indoor pool area also has nice outdoor lounge chairs and tables around the gardens

I believe all buildings contain rooms.

The cast members costumes, décor, music, molding, artwork, all will remind you of the Grand Floridian.

If you have the money to spend this is the Disney Resort to stay at during your Disneyland Paris vacation. The resort is stunning, clean, have a friendly staff and you are literally at the entrance to the Park.

Disneyland Paris: Hotel Santa Fe Review

Disneyland Paris: Hotel Santa Fe Review

This sign invites you to the Hotel Santa Fe

I was very excited about the Hotel Santa Fe when I researched Disney resorts at Disneyland Paris.   The photos, the overall theme and concept, it all looked very cool.  It’s not.  I am very glad I went to all the Disney resorts and spent several days exploring them before staying at Disneyland Paris for a week long vacation.

I would consider the Hotel Santa Fe a value resort if you are comparing it to a Walt Disney World resort in Orlando.  Also you need to understand that prices are much higher in France than in the US and with the weak US dollar it is even worse.

It is not quite this bad but a comparison to staying at a Motel 6 and paying the same price as the Grand Floridian is not far off.
To get a feel for the resort you need to watch the video and decide for yourself.

This hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the park.  It is basically located behind the Sequoia Lodge.  There is also bus transportation to the parks, but it’s probably faster just to walk.

Disneyland Paris: Hotel Santa Fe Review

The front desk area at the Hotel Santa Fe

As a guest you would arrive most likely by bus to the main check in building.  Buses pick up at the RER station.  This main build is a long narrow building with neon signs surrounded by pavement and a large parking lot in front and behind.  The lobby is really just an area to get into a que line and either check in or check out.  There is a character photo spot to the left when you walk in to take photos with one of the Disney Characters at set times.

Disneyland Paris: Hotel Santa Fe Review

This is really a cool photo, but it's about the only one in the area

There is a long narrow cement floor hallway, like you probably remember from your high school, that has a small arcade, restrooms, and a  Disney shop.  The hallway ends at a buffet style restaurant that looks almost like a slightly smaller Peppers Market from Disney’s Coronado Spring in Orlando.  For breakfast each station in this food court has baskets filled with packets of butter, packets of jam, and more packets of butter.

Maybe I should have gotten the slice of ham

There is a spot that has hard rolls and small Chocolate croissants, a tray with some slices of ham, and three kinds of cereal.  There is also some cubes of cheese.  That’s it.  It’s amusing walking around this massive space from station to station to see how many different ways packets of butter can be displayed.  This “breakfast” is included in your stay.  At lunch time these same stations offer a buffet for about 22 – 26 euros a person so $33 – $35

The Bridge from Hotel Santa Fe toward the parks

The worse part is the resort itself.  It consists of outside lodge buildings that from the outside need a great deal of maintenance.  Some building have graffiti, most the paint is coming off, or are very cracked.  The grounds have signs that are old and falling apart, or covered in dirt and grime, Non of the water features, streams, ponds etc work, the landscaping, what little there is, is not maintained in some areas and some areas are just weeds.

I personally can not recommend anyone ever stay here.

Below are some photos of the resort but to get a true feeling for it you have to be there.  It’s very sad.  It’s hard to believe this is a Disney resort. Maybe a year from now things will be different at Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe, but I spent two days here and walking every inch of this property and just can not recommend this resort to anyone.

Chip & Company Week in Review, June 6, 2011

Chip & Company Week in Review, June 6, 2011

As always, when it comes to Disney news and views, your writers at Chip & Company have been quite busy reporting to you all the news related to Disney!  If you missed some of it, please take a look at some of these articles that came down last week!

  • Our own Aljon had a chance to sit down and chat with Vanessa Marano, star of ‘Switched at Birth’.  If you missed the interview, check it out!
  • Raise your hand if you are interested in getting one of the Mermaid Makeovers at the Pirate’s League!  (Chip, put your hand down!)  This news story came to us from Wendy, but you’ve only got until July 2nd, so you better hurry.  Thanks Wendy!
  • Jennifer has a review of the Disney Food Blog Guide to Walt Disney World Dining!  Who doesn’t love to eat at Disney?
  • Mel writes to us about the wheelchair accessible ride vehicles you can find at the Magic Kingdom.  This is great information to have if you are unable to transfer out of your wheelchair.
  • Before Jodi wrote her piece, “The Magic, The Memories, and…Wishes”, I never knew how many fireworks went into one showing of Wishes!  Thanks for all of that great information, Jodi!
  • Did you read Kristen’s piece about “The Captain Jack Sparrow Handbook”?  If not, click the link!  It’s a must have for any pirate or pirate wanna-be!
  • Our friend Anonymouse wrote to us last week about the Mission Tortilla Factory, or more importantly, about what is going to replace it!
  • This just in!  Now you can get your very own Chip & Company T-Shirts!  For all of my fellow writers, there is no truth to the rumor that we each need to buy one in order to keep writing for Chip & Company!
  • Are you about to embark on a trip to Disneyland?  Then take a look at the refurbishment schedule for June 2011!
  • And last, but certainly not least, for the Disney World crowd, never fear, here’s the refurbishment schedule for WDW for June 2011.  I’d better re-read that, since we’ll be heading that way in just a little while!

In addition to all of the news, of course we have our views of the things that make Walt Disney great.  Here are just a few of the ones that we had last week!

  • One of our newer writers is Savannah, who wrote a nice piece about her “Top 5 underrated Walt Disney World Restaurants”. Do her top 5 match your top 5?
  • Our friend Steve from Pixie Vacations visited Disneyland Paris, and has a series of articles.  One neat one that I liked was his review of Disney’s Hotel NY.
  • Do you struggle with finding ways to bring the Magic home with you?  Do you like cookies?  If the answer to both of those questions is yes, Melissa just might have found a possible solution for you in her “In the Disney Kitchen” piece!

I hope you have enjoyed this week’s Week in Review from Chip & Company.  If you ever need any additional information, you can feel free to post your question on Facebook, Tweet us @chipandcompany, or even email us!  Each of us has a Chip & Company email address which is the same address as the name of the writer.  For example, my address is mike@chipandco.com!  Have a great week!
