Saudi Prince Celebrates Graduation at Disneyland Paris

Saudi Prince Celebrates Graduation at Disneyland Paris

Saudi Prince Fahd al-Saud hosted his graduation celebration at Disneyland Paris. The Saudi prince booked the theme park for three days for himself and his friends. Reports say that this celebration cost 15 million euros, or the equivalent of $19.5 million.

British and French media reported that sections of the Disneyland Paris theme park were booked between May 22 and 24 in order to accommodate the 60 guests invited to the celebration. These sections also implemented special security provisions for the Saudi prince and his guests.

The reports have not stated where Fahd graduated from or even what he studied. The Daily Telegraph quoted Euro Disney which said that the special event even included “rare Disney characters.” The Telegraph also referred to a local paper, Ouest France, which said that special costumes, sets, and 80 dancers participated in a special show called Disney Dreamers Everywhere. The show had previously been featured at other Disney theme parks including Hong Kong, Tokyo, and the United States. Ouest France also reported that the tour was “entirely at the expense of the Saudi royal.”

Did you know that Minnie Mouse has over 200 different outfits? Well, she’s just added one more costume to her wardrobe! Minnie Mouse received a Lanvin makeover at Disneyland Paris. Minnie Mouse has moved beyond her red and white polka dot dress to a more mature look. Lanvin’s designer Alber Elbaz created a long-sleeve blue frock topped with a red crown for Minnie to model at special events at Disneyland Paris. Minnie Mouse displayed her new look on the runway at a catwalk show on Saturday at Disneyland Paris.

“Walt Disney was the one that actually designed Minnie. It’s the first time an actual designer has come into the picture and designed a dress for her,” said Elbaz. ”It was a great challenge and responsibility to do. I just wanted her to shine… I wanted to give her a crown in red, and the dress in blue, (a signature) for Lanvin.”

The dress seemed to get approval from the celebrity-filled front row including actress Virginie Ledoyen and model Natalia Vodianova. However, not all fans are crazy it. This new look won’t completely replace Minnie’s classic dress though. She will still don that for normal events at the park.

Minnie did at least keep her curvy figure with Lanvin’s design unlike Barney’s New York’s images that had attempted to lengthen the beloved character.

“We’re not here to transform people,” Elbaz explained. “We love her the way she is.”

What do you think of Minnie Mouse’s new look? Do you prefer this over her classic red and white polka dots?

Are you ready to plan your next Disney parks vacation? I’d love to help!

Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

A long time from now in a city not so far away we may all get to visit Star Wars Land at Disneyland. The Disney-verse has lit up more than a Death Star explosion with the news of a survey being addressed to Annual Pass Holder and Fanatics. This survey includes a number of references to a Star Wars Land and asks what the respondents think of this expansion idea. What do you think? Would you like a Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

We’ve known of plans to add a Star Wars Land to Disneyland Paris since last year when the imagineers let that out. The Star Wars Land is said to include Star Tours, Jedi Academy and a Mos Eisley Cantina. Without any ground breaking yet, we don’t know for sure where it will go. However, the rumors state that likely it will take over Pizza Planet and Captain EO which are next to Star Tours. They will then expand it to become its own Star Wars Land.

Here’s what we know:

  1. Disney spent $4 Billion to buy Star Wars
  2. Disneyland Anaheim is asking guests to take a survey about Star Wars
  3. Disneyland Paris Star Wars Land planned opening in 2015
  4. Star Wars VII is planned for release in 2015
  5. Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

As my imagination runs wild, here’s what I predict, Star Wars Land will open in both Disneyland Anaheim and Disneyland Paris around the same time as Star Wars VII comes out. Disney didn’t get to where they are without knowing how to do things big.

We all know that Disneyland Resort doesn’t have a lot of unused space. So the question becomes, where does it go? Everyone has their own ideas and most are pretty good thoughts. I’ve read that perhaps it will replace Tomorrowland, or maybe it will go in the much alluded to “Third Gate” that is supposed to open sometime in the next few decades. Maybe, just maybe Disney is holding out on us and has already been purchasing up additional space around Disneyland that we haven’t heard about yet.

While we don’t have a lot of solid evidence to give yet, we do know that Star Wars Land at Disneyland is a real possibility. Don’t book your trip just yet, but do keep checking back with us for any new information. What do you think of a possible Star Wars Land at Disneyland? Let us know!

One last juicy bit of gossip to share, just read that perhaps, maybe, just maybe Walt Disney World will get a Cars Land & Star Wars Land combined at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Now that’s a big stretch, but hey we can all dream right? Didn’t Walt teach us all to keep dreaming and reaching?

Ratatouille Ride is Coming to Disneyland Paris

Ratatouille Ride is Coming to Disneyland Paris

At the Euro Disney‘s annual shareholder meeting Ratatouille was the main topic of conversation. I have a feeling excitement was obvious when Chairman Philippe Gas announced future plans for the park which included a new attraction based on the Oscar winning Pixar/Disney movie “Ratatouille.

The exciting, new attraction will open at the Walt Disney Studios Park in 2014. In usual Disney fashion very few details have been released. The new attraction is sure to highlight Disney at his best! We will look for a combination with wonderful storytelling and state-of-the-art technology with Ratatouille’s favorite rat Remy.

“Our new family-focused Ratatouille attraction, which is scheduled to open in 2014, symbolises all of the creativity, innovation and emotion that guests associate with a Disneyland Paris experience,” said Gas. “By developing this new Ratatouille attraction, we continue to ensure our guests can experience their favorite Disney stories in memorable ways that only Disney can provide. The theme, which is very français, is a tribute to our capital and the unforgettable characters that make Ratatouille the ideal choice for an attraction that fits perfectly at Disneyland Paris.”

Other announcements included the extension of the Disneyland Paris 20th Anniversary celebrations thru September 2013, of their popular nighttime spectacular called “Disney Dreams!”. The extension will bring you new scenes from “Brave” and “The Lion King” as well as bringing the “Glow with the Show” interactive Mickey ear hats from the “World of Color Show in Disneyland California to Paris.  In Paris they will be called “Disney Light’Ears“.

Whether Tara is helping people make a memory with a trip to Disney (or anywhere else for that matter)  or she is helping to write all the news and gossip to keep you in the know!  She also has a brand new facebook page for even more tidbits on Disney and travel, so visit her at Magical Memories and the Mouse.

Tony Baxter, Senior VP of Creative Development for Walt Disney Imagineering, is stepping down from leading up the team that comes up with all of our favorite rides and attractions. Baxter has had a rich 47 year history with Disneyland from scooping ice cream to creating some of the park’s most famous rides like Big Thunder Mountain.

“It has been a wondrous 47 years,” Baxter said in a statement. “The Imagineers I have known and shared these times with have provided invaluable experiences not to be found anywhere else on Earth. The future of Imagineering and Disney Parks is incredibly bright.”

Baxter got to do and see it all in his tenure with the Walt Disney Company. At Disneyland, Baxter led the creation of some of Disneyland’s major rides, including Splash Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Abroad, Baxter also was the foreman for the development of Disneyland Paris and worked on the creation of Walt Disney World.

Baxter does not want to be too far from Disney and has offered himself up as a mentor to current imagineers. He will be greatly missed and gets many thanks from all his friends at Disney.

“Like so many Imagineering greats before him, his creativity, passion and knowledge will have a remarkable impact on the next generations of (Disney) dreamers and doers,” said Bruce Vaughn, chief creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering, in a statement. “We thank Tony for his immeasurable contributions to the Disney legacy so far, and look forward to the next chapter of his Disney story.”
