Odean theaters pulls Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland”

Article from the examiner discussing a theater chain that will not be showing Alice in Wonderland.. yeah that is a smart move..
It was only a few weeks ago that the controversy began around “Alice in Wonderland” and its shorter run in theaters. Disney approached the UK Cinemas: Odeon, Vue and Cineworld with a theater life for the higly anticipated film of 12 weeks, shortened from the normal 17-week-run.
All cinemas claimed “party foul,” with Odean and Vue pulling all promotional ads and halting advance ticket sales for the March 5 release date. As reported in an earlier article surrounding the buzz, Disney’s distribution chiefs, Bob Chapek and Chuck Viane, took a flight from Hollywood to talk with the British exhibitors.
“We feel that it’s important for us to maintain a healthy business on the exhibition side and a healthy business on the home video side… We remain committed to theatrical windows, with the need for exceptions to accommodate a shortened timeframe on a case-by-case basis, such as with Disney’s Alice in Wonderland,” said Chapek.

The Princess and the Frog comes to Disneyworld’s Port Orleans

So as the date approaches for the release of The Princess & the Frog on Blu-ray and DVD I can’t help but wonder if we will see Princess Tiana & Prince Naveen making their mark on any Disneyworld Resort. By the way it releases on March 16th if you have not preordered. So with the huge success of the movie earning around 100 Million dollars domestically just in the theater, you have to ask yourself what is next?
Right now Disney has a perfect opportunity to make this movie a classic for all time by incorporating it into one of its Disney World resort, the Port Orleans. Both the Riverside and French Quarter already have a Southern, Louisiana, Mardi Gras type feel with the decorations and such. I am sure it would take minimal effort for the Disney Imagineers to come up with a way to change the decorations to resemble the look and feel of the movie. They are refurbing half of the park already anyway ![]()
I would like to see Disney possibly incorporate a character breakfast at the Boatwright’s Dining Hall. Almost every other resort has some kind of character breakfast. I know my family and I practically live at the Polynesian, Contemporary, and Grand Floridian for the various character meals. Being able to meet Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, and possible Raymond would be very cool. Also like the other resorts with Character meals you are getting people to venture out of the parks and check out various resorts, buy merchandise, and possibly make reservations for next visits. Isn’t that what you want Disney more sales?
Another cool thing DisneyWorld could do is possibly have a daily or weekly “Mardi Gras” celebration. I know over the summer Disney had the Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee which was great but for some reason they stopped doing it. If Disney was trying to guage attendance and if it would be worthy to have it permantely at the park I think maybe it was a little to soon. I am no numbers expert but I think alot of people who didn’t see the movie in the theaters are just waiting for the DVD/BluRay release. I know we have seen it several times in the theater but our 3 year old is probably the exception since she is a movie buff like her mom and dad. If anyone at Disney is reading this give it another chance! I know our family would love to see the show or participate in a Mardi Gras celebration minus all the drinking and flashing that goes on at the real one.
Whatever the future of Princess and The Frog I hope the creative staff and management at Walt Disney Co are trying to find ways to incorporate Princess Tiana & Prince Naveen into the fabric of the Disney experience. If not here are just a few suggestions ![]()
