Good Eats – Best Cheeseburger at Pecos Bill
When Chip asked us to write about a good Disney dining experience or what we think is a “best” food at Walt Disney World, I started thinking of all the great steaks I have had at Le Cellier and the wonderful dessert at ‘Ohana, but then I decided not to write about those. One reason is that I have written about them before, but the other reason is that when it comes right down to it, I prefer a delicious burger to just about any other food.
When I was growing up my daddy would always say, “You can take Brenda to any restaurant, even the most fancy and expensive restaurant, and she’ll order a burger every time.” He was right…and some things never change!
I love the taste of a grilled burger topped with my favorite fixings and at Walt Disney World my favorite is a Quick Service restaurant in the Magic Kingdom, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Café. This western-themed counter-service “joint” is appropriately located in Frontierland. It gets pretty crowded at main meal times but there is a lot of seating inside Pecos Bill.
My favorite burger here is the Deluxe 1/3lb Angus Cheeseburger. It is topped with bacon, onion rings, and barbecue sauce and served with french fries (you can get apple slices instead but…). Once you get your burger, and while the aroma tantalizes you, you can head over to the awesome “fixins” bar to add whatever you want: lettuce, tomatoes, sautéed onions, mushrooms, hot cheese, banana peppers, ketchup, pickles, etc.
The burger at Pecos Bill is well-done, which is just the way I like it. The buns are substantial, much like a French bread roll, so you can load it up. I think this Angus burger is amazing and eating at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Café says “Welcome home!”

New Eats and Treats at the Magic Kingdom
New eats and treats are making their way through the menus in the Magic Kingdom.
In the eats department
- Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe (Tomorrowland) is serving 1/3 pound angus burger, beef salad, vegetable sandwich, turkey sandwich, deluxe chili dog and gelato.
- Columbia Inn Harbor House (Liberty Square) is offering baked salmon with couscous, lobster roll, broccoli peppercorn salad and steamed fresh broccoli.
- Also changing, the price of soda (a.k.a. “pop” for those of us from the mid-west) has increased from $2.19 to $2.59 and from $2.49 to $2.89.
In the treats department
- The Frontierland Pretzel Wagon (between Pecos Bill Cafe and the Diamond Horseshoe) is now test driving the Mickey pretzel, which is popular in the Disneyland parks. Cheese and chocolate dipping sauces are available for your pretzel for an additional cost.
It’s nice to see Disney expanding the menus at quick service restaurants but there are some old favorites I’d love to see come back on the menu…mainly the ham sandwich at Columbia Inn Harbor House…it was topped with that delicious broccoli slaw…those were the days!
What menu item/snack do you miss the most?

The Most Talked-About Treat at Disney Parks
If last week’s D23 crowd and blog posts are any indication, this adorable pretzel has to be one of the most coveted tastes at Walt Disney World Resort. You can only find them one place: in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Frontierland Pretzel Wagon between the Diamond Horseshoe and Pecos Bill Cafe (next to the turkey leg cart). Pair the twist with cheese and chocolate dipping sauces. Insiders tell us it’s still in “testing phase” at Walt Disney World Resort, but we bet it’s here to stay.
You also can find it at Disneyland park at Refreshment Corner, Bengal Barbecue, Frontierland Pretzel, Small World Pretzel and Tomorrowland Pretzel. At Disney California Adventure Park, they are sold at Bayside Brews, the Beer Truck and Hollywood Pretzel. Have you joined the Mickey pretzel craze and tried one yet?
