About Brian Rood:
Brian began his career while in college, studying graphic design. He became interested in the field of illustration and started an internship with a local art studio that was breaking into the comic books industry. It was here, that Brian learned about the airbrush as a commercial illustration tool and quickly caught on to painting with it. Soon Brian was teaching other artists how to manipulate the tool and create images that rival photographs.

Brian attended his first Comic Book convention with only two paintings and not knowing what to expect. Much to his surprise, the convention was more then just comic books, it was a gathering of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, film, music, video games, pin-ups, pop culture, licensed merchandise, etc… that would soon be taking Hollywood by storm. He was in complete awe of the opportunities and possibilities that were contained within the convention center walls. For several years to come, Brian toured the various conventions across then country and began establishing himself with fans, collectors, editors, art directors, writers and other artists. Brian’s untouchable talent got him jobs such as cover art, interior art, storybook illustrations, posters, collector lithographs, trading cards, and advertising/packaging art. Brian’s first art book, The Art of Brian Rood , was published in 2003 and has since gone into a hardbound edition.

Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy on Sorcerer Radio’s WDW Tiki Room 9/2

Bill Farmer, the voice behind Goofy

The Sorcerer Radio Network, a global leader in fan-based Disney internet radio and programming, is proud to have actor Bill Farmer, the voice behind Goofy, as guest on the WDW Tiki Room radio show Friday September 2, 2011.

William “Bill” Farmer is a voice actor and comedian, best known for being the current voice of the Disney characters Goofy, Pluto and Horace Horsecollar. Farmer’s first job, at the age of 15, involved doing voices, especially those of Western stars like John Wayne or Walter Brennan. He and his friends would sometimes go through fast food drive-thrus and order foods in his voices. Bill attended the University of Kansas where he found work in radio and TV and then moved on to stand-up comedy as an impressionist until he moved out to Hollywood where he voiced Goofy since 1986.

Farmer’s decision to move to California came from a Dallas commercial agent who suggested that, given his talent for voices, he should try his luck in California. He was recently married, but he and his wife talked it over and came to an arrangement. She stayed back in Dallas while he commuted for a year after he got an apartment. Then four months after his moving out to Hollywood, his agent asked him if he could do any Disney characters. His very first animated character audition was for Goofy. When he auditioned for the voice, he studied all the cartoons with Goofy in them, especially the ones released in the 1930s. He studied the hilarious laugh and the distinctive “gawrsh”. He inherited the voice of Goofy (as well as Pluto and Horace Horsecollar), around the same time Tony Anselmo inherited Donald Duck, and Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor did likewise for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, respectively. Bill believes that cartoon voices are not about funny voices, but rather acting. His mentor was the late Daws Butler, the voice behind many of the old Hanna-Barbera characters. Daws put it in Bill’s mind that when doing cartoon voices, you’re not merely doing a funny voice, you’re an actor and the acting is premier and that you have to think like the character you’re doing.

Farmer is also known as the voice of Goofy in A Goofy Movie in 1995 and as the voice of Goofy in the sequel An Extremely Goofy Movie in 2000.

Farmer is known for starring in Astro Boy (2004), House of Mouse (2001), Mickey Mouse Works (1999), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2006), Goof Troop (1992) and The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse (1987). He is best known for his voice acting for Goofy and Pluto, two famous Disney characters, and more recently he has also played Horace Horsecollar. Another big role he played was in the movie Space Jam (1996), where he voiced Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, and Foghorn Leghorn. He also has done several minor voices, both on TV (including The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) and in video games, including the Destroy All Humans! series, Namco’s Tales of Symphonia, where he voiced Governor-General Dorr, in Square’s Kingdom Hearts series reprising the role of Goofy, Detective Date in the SEGA game Yakuza and Sam and others in cult classic adventure game Sam & Max Hit the Road. Farmer has also voiced Secret Squirrel in Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law, in both the animated series and its spin-off video game. He also voiced Lim in Geng series 1-4.

His other voice roles include Stinkie in Casper: A Spirited Beginning, Willie Bear in Horton Hears a Who!, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in Robot Chicken, Tusky Husky on Krypto the Superdog, Captain Wedgewood and Frill Lizard in Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, many voices on EverQuest II, Cletus Samson, Floyd Sanders, Jeff Meyers and Ryan LaRosa in the video game Dead Rising, Tyler the Candlestick Maker in Bongee Bear and the Kingdom of Rhythm and much more.vHe also was the announcer in Troops, in 1997. In September 2009, Farmer was named a Disney Legend.

Join hosts Kristen Hoetzel and Aljon Go on WDW Tiki Room for a SPECIAL DISNEY LEGENDS show. They will feature EXCLUSIVE audio of the D23 Expo’s Legends ceremony as well as an exclusive interview with Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy. They will also have a special Bonus Levels videogame review by Eric Allen featuring his Top 5 Disney game apps! What to Expect from a D23 Expo

d23expo2 300x163 What to Expect from a D23 Expo %tag

This year I was happy that I had the opportunity to visit the D23 Expo!  Though I had previously been to Disneyland, I could not resist a visit to the parks.  The Expo was opened from Friday, August 19 - Sunday, August 21.  I arrived in Anaheim on August 17 so I had two days to enjoy the parks before the opening of the Expo.  I spent both of these two days at the parks from open until the close trying to get in as many details as I could in the time I had.  I was attending the Expo with my son, age 5.  So, I knew that I would not be able to be at the Expo from open until close without a kiddie riot.  As such, I had purchased two additional days tickets to the theme parks so I could split my time between the Expo and the parks.  Looking back on this decision, it was the best one I could have made for our situation.  However, me being a “never say die” person, I was attempting to be at the Expo at open while also being in the theme parks until close.  Between the two, I was exhausted for the return home.

If you plan on visiting a D23Expo, here are a few things you should consider:

  • You will receive free things at the Expo - I received fans, buttons, stickers, balloons, an Expo guide book, pamphlets, and on and on. When planning your visit to the Expo, be sure to plan for these items (assuming you want to keep them) when selecting the luggage you bring to the Expo.
  • The crowds are overwhelming for the larger events - People arrive 1 – 3 hours before the events to line up and make sure that they get a spot.  In some instances, shows became full long before the demand had been met.  One example was the Dick Van Dyke show on Friday evening.  Many were disappointed that they could not experience this legendary show.
  • You have to be selective in your chose of events -  Many of the events and shows take place while other events and shows are going on.  As such, it is important to review the materials found online for the D23 Expo or the Expo Guidebook you recieve once at the Expo.  You will need to take care to select the events that more interest you.
  • Bring your business card -  If you represent a website or company, be sure to bring your business card along with you.  This will give you something to hand out to those you meet at the Expo so you can contact one another in the future.
  • Talk to others -  The attendees (mostly) are other extreme Disney fans and what better opportunity to meet some lifelong Disney friends than at the Expo!

There is a lot to see, a lot.  Before you go, know you just cannot possibly see everything.  If you bring a child, as I did, you can still have a great time!  He and I attended two shows that were over 2 hours long.  Once we finished, we headed over to Disney Living where several exhibits included toys for the children to play with, as well as games that could be played.  I was careful to make the experience one he enjoyed as well.

I hope to see you all at the next D23 Expo.  If you would like additional details on some of the shows I attended, please find the articles at Meet the Magic.
