Opening this month! Splitsville Luxury Lanes at Downtown Disney West Side
Featuring a full-scale restaurant with two sushi bars, dining shares the spotlight with 30 high-tech bowling lanes at Splitsville Luxury Lanes, the new premier two-level entertainment destination that joins other fun experiences at Downtown Disney West Side.
With two kitchens, dramatic architecture, outdoor seating and live entertainment, guests can bowl and snack on pizza or filet mignon sliders, or skip the lanes and make a reservation for full-service dining – indoors or outdoors on the patio.
There’s sushi constantly being rolled on display upstairs and downstairs. “Who would expect sushi with bowling,” says Mark Gibson, co-founder of Splitsville. Experts are slicing and dicing everything from California rolls to spicy tuna and the JB Roll with salmon – a dozen rolls in all.
Booths and tables for diners have blue, silver and gold accents. “They’re classic and refined, but with fun touches and retro finishes,” says Gibson.
The sophisticated menu, which features items for the entire family, is the creation of Chef Tim Cushman, one of Food & Wine magazine’s “Best New Chefs” in 2008. Starters include three-pepper calamari sautéed with cherry, jalapeño and banana peppers; seared ahi tuna; alley nachos with the works; mini-turkey clubs made with freshly roasted turkey and Loaded Fries “smothered with nacho cheese, bacon and love.” Plus there are healthier options such as a variety of salads and edamame.
Disney Janitors Strike After 70 Workers Laid Off
United Service Workers West voted to authorize a strike and protested outside the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank if Disney fails to rehire all workers. The security officers and janitors currently work for contractors who clean landlord and corporate tenant offices. Over the last 10 years, workers have gained health care benefits and increased their wages above.
Disney does not guarantee that the workers will keep their jobs or benefits when a cleaning service provider takes over next week.
SEIU United Service Workers West currently represents more than 40,000 airport service workers, security officers, janitors and other property service workers in California. There are more than two million members in North America.
Disney has stated that the 68 impacted workers have been offered comparable positions to their current jobs with Able Service, the largest privately held buiding services provider in the United States. Able currently services other Disney locations and has a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU United Service Workers West.

Daddy & Daughter Review of Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two,” the sequel to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Disney Epic Mickey” video game. “Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” for Wii U™ is now available for digital download in the Nintendo eShop and for purchase at retailers nationwide for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and for the Wii™ and Wii U™ systems from Nintendo. In addition “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion,” the first Nintendo 3DS™ title for “Disney Epic Mickey”, is also available at retailers nationwide and for download in the Nintendo eShop.
When I originally sat down to play Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two I was going to hit it up solo like I normally do. Then I remembered when I was out in Disneyland for the Epic Mickey 2 event, Disney was nice enough to give me some goodies to bring home. As you can see in the picture above I received the Oswald Remote and the Mickey Paintbrush. So I figured why not do a Daddy & Daughter review of Epic Mickey 2 – The Power of Two, I mean both Mickey and Oswald are finally together so why not?
After some tough bargaining and promises of ice cream after dinner I got to use the Epic Mickey Paint Brush and she used the Oswald Remote. Since she is only 6 so I think the remote was a little more forgiving than the brush so that worked out better.
We both loved the opening movie. I don’t like to include spoilers in my reviews but I think Disney really needs to make a full fledged movie out of the Epic Mickey storyline. I wanted to go get some popcorn and watch it. We were both in awe on how good it looked even on the Wii.
Disneyland’s Candy Canes is one Hot Holiday Commodity
A 35-year-old holiday tradition continues – hand-made candy canes at Disneyland! As reported by the Disney Food Blog this year’s candy canes will be made in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Over at Disneyland the holiday treats will be made at the renovated Candy Place while at DCA they will be made at Trolley Treats.
One of the reasons the candy canes are so popular is because of the limited amount they make. Before park opening wristbands are given away for each batch made. There are 40 wristbands per batch and three batches per day are made. Each wristband is good for one candy cane and will have a date and batch time printed on it. Once you have a wristband you can pick up your candy cane any time after your batch time (but you must pick it up by 4:00pm or it will be sold to someone else).
Dates that the candy canes will be made are:
Worker Rescued From Disneyland’s Space Mountain Roof
A 37 year old man was hospitalized while he was injured cleaning the roof of Disneyland’s Space Mountain. Firefighters had to rescue the man and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital because of moderate injuries which included a broken left femur, broken right clavicle and a cut on his forehead.
This is not the type of ride you want to take on Space Mountain…
The injured man works for HSG, which is a maintenance company that was contracted by Disney to clean the roof. He apparently slipped when one of the ropes he was using came loose and slid about 20 feet on the 45 degree sloped roof hitting a barricade at the bottom of the roof. The accident happened before Disneyland opened at 8am. No closures to the ride was reported.
