Six Attractions at Disneyland Resort Closing for Refurbishments

Six of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure’s attractions have been closed/are going to temporarily close for some refurbishments.

Pirates of the Caribbean, Blue Bayou restaurant, and California Screamin’ are all closed at the moment. Pirates and Blue Bayou closed back in September and will be closed until November 23 after lots of routine maintenance.

Over in California Adventure, the California Screamin’ rollercoaster is currently closed for routine maintenance. The only looping coaster in either of the parks is scheduled to reopen on October 15. The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, which was recently re-themed to “Up”, is closed through October 28 for routine maintenance.

A couple of attractions are on the schedule to close soon: it’s a small world and the it’s tough to be a bug! attraction. it’s a small world will be receiving its holiday overlay. It is scheduled to close October 24 and is scheduled to reopen November 10. it’s tough to be a bug! will be down for some routine maintenance October 24 to November 11.

It’s been strange seeing Pirates and Blue Bayou closed for such a long period of time. I’ve definitely missed seeing Captain Jack. I’ve had no motivation to really visit California Adventure since Screamin’ has been closed. (Plus it doesn’t help that it’s a maze to get into the park.) I’m glad the time has come for it’s a small world to receive its holiday overlay because our writer Patrick has never been to Disneyland during Christmastime, and it’s the only time of year I can stand going on the ride. (Sorry, Patrick — I KNOW you hate it but you’re going to have to endure it because it’s the Christmas version.)

What do you think of all of these closings — are they cutting out any beloved attractions during your visit? Are they making the other attractions more crowded? Or do you just not care? I want to know what you think. Let me know in the comments below.

  1. I’m sad Pirates will be down when I’m at the Park. It’s always been our “I’m really tired but not enough to go back to the hotel so lets sit for 20 min while we ride Pirates” ride.

  2. Pirates is down just for routine maintenance. No changes should be made. (If they did I would be pretty upset…)

small world will be closing but at least it will be open soon! Think of it closing as a birthday present because once it reopens it will be all pretty and Christmas-y.

I’m glad they have the big gates open at DCA for the exit because it’s a pain in the butt to walk all the way back to the entrance to exit the park. I don’t like the maze situation.

  3. Great report and amen to the DCA walls. At least at closing time they had a gate open so guests could exit right to the trams. Sad that Small World closes on my birthday as we do that every trip or so it seems. I cannot wait to see if they changed anything on Pirates. Thanks for all the information.
