Screenwriter on ‘Big Hero 6’ and ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Dies at 49

The co-screen writer for the Oscar-winning Big Hero 6, Daniel Gerson, has passed away at 49 from brain cancer in Los Angeles according to his family.

Gerson met his writing partner Robert Baird in 1998 and began writing together in 2000. Gerson, along with Baird co-wrote the 2017 Cars 3 as well as Monsters Inc and Monsters University, Chicken Little, Cars, Open Season, Meet the Robinson’s, Up and Inside Out.

Gerson was also the voice of the janitors Needlemen and Smitty in Monsters Inc, and the desk sergeant in Big Hero 6.


Gerson was brought up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan as a 3rd generation New Yorker, he attended Cornell University and the film school at NYU where he received his masters. He started his career as a staff writer on some of NBC and ABC sitcoms. Gerson is survived by his wife of 20 years, his parents and his children.
