Howdy guys and gals! It’s me – Anonymouse back with some Walt Disney World Resort gossip for you. Chippy has had me scurrying about to gather more and more gossip for you! I’ve heard that Rapid Fill Secure Refillable Mugs Program is a BIG failure! That’s right, folks, Disney is losing money hand over fist on this program.

Disney now has new Resort Mugs with a chip in them which costs extra and drives the prices of the mugs up. Not only that, but Disney had to install systems to read these chips on all the soda machines at every resort. More cost = higher prices!

Guests have quickly become aware that it’s only the soda machines that are locked down with this new system. So, they drink Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Tea, and Juice instead. This increased consumption drives the cost through the roof.  Further, it’s been rumored that the Deluxe Resort managers hate the system. So, they just turn it off all together. Now you have free soda in the mix as well.

Guests are fed up, managers are fed up, other cast members are fed up…so, who tested this system and declared it great? Why wasn’t it tied to the MagicBand?

It’s highly likely we’ll be seeing some changes to this system soon!

Anywho, that is all the Disney gossip I have right now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my facebook page.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. Royal Caribbean went to the same system. You purchase a cup for the length of the cruise and it has a chip in it so the soda machines will only work if you have an “active” cup.

  2. So sorry, but I’m not feeling any sympathy for “poor” Disney “losing money hand over fist” with this system. Anyplace that charges the outragous prices they change for every single little thing, and we should believe that they are losing money over some beverages (that were marked up 110% to begin with,) and a junky cup priced at $14.99 that probably cost 5 cents to manufacture…nope, I don’t buy it. Maybe if they made their prices a bit more reasonable, they wouldn’t run into these issues.

  3. Just a bubbles note if you stick your finger in the cup (not when filling) with all the bubbles they will go down really fast. I do it any place I fill a cup.

  4. So, the interesting thing about fountain drinks at Disney is that they get the syrup from Coca-Cola for free. I’m not sure if this is limited to the parks or not, but in exchange, Coca-Cola gets to be the exclusive provider of bottled water at the resorts/theme parks. And, they make a ton of money off those bottles of water. This is not a secret btw, this is openly discussed on the Keys to the Kingdom tour at MK. This has been about 5 years since I did the tour, so that all may have changed. On a personal note, the new mugs take longer to fill, and if they are not placed exactly right, they don’t work. We were there in October and used them.

  5. i think it would be a good idea if you only had to buy one for your entire trip i would be ok with buying a new one each time a went because we do use them at the hotel..but it sucks having to then either buy another one at each park or buy individual drinks at each park we already pay and arm and a leg for everything there…they couldnt help us out on drinks?

  6. We used the mugs last September and didn’t have any technical problems. But because of the high price of the mugs, we would not have gotten them if they hadn’t been included in the dining plan. I can see where it is costing Disney a lot of money to implement the system, but I think most guest complaints, at least the ones I heard when we were there, is that they can’t use their mugs they bought on previous trips. Something you were not supposed to do anyway.

  7. When we had our mugs at WL last may, we were told that hot chocolate, coffee and tea was included but juice was not.

  8. I hate it when we were there! If you waited too long to let the bubbles go down you were SOL and had to wait again to fill it the rest of the way. Definitely not a win for Disney on this
