Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is a moderate tier resort located in the Animal Kingdom area on Disney property.  It’s broken down into three sections-Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas.  These encircle a 22 acre lake.  This resort is a Southwestern/Mexican themed resort.  Surrounding the 22 acre lake are small beach areas, with hammocks to enjoy the view.  The rooms at this resort are either 2 queen beds or 1 king size bed.  Each room comes with a small refrigerator, pack and play upon request, hair dryer, coffee maker, and other amenities.

One of the best parts of Coronado Springs Resort is it’s pool-the Dig Site.  Here your kids will enjoy a fun water slide, a Mayan pyramid, and a playground.  There are also small areas of sand where they can dig and play, along with an arcade, ping pong tables, and a beach volleyball court.  Poolside you’ll also find a quick service dining snack bar that serves drinks, small meals, and ice cream treats.  Since Pepper Market is quite a walk from the pool, our family took advantage of this snack bar several times.

Coronado Springs hosts some of the best restaurants on all of Disney property.  They range from quick service, to poolside, to table service.

  • Pepper Market.  Here you’ll find several “stations” where your order is cooked fresh and hot.  Quesadillas, tacos, pastas, pizzas and other kid friendly foods await your family in an “open air” themed market.  You are greeted by a host or hostess who seats you, and the wait staff is superb.  It’s almost a “table service” experience at a QSD credit.  Cafe Rix and Siestas Cantina will also get you some quick food and drinks while at the resort.
  • Maya Grill, the table service restaurant at Coronado Springs, serves Tex-Mex food in a Mayan atmosphere.  Maya Grill is open for dinner only.
  • Laguna Bar, Siestas Cantina, and Rix Lounge will provide you with drinks and appetizers after a long day in the parks.

Some tips to keep in mind when staying at Disney’s Coronado Springs resort:

  • Disney buses transport you to every park and Downtown Disney.  Since this an extremely large resort, plan on being at the bus stop plenty early to set out for your day.
  • As this is a large resort, there are often conventions held here.  It’s a good idea to call ahead when planning your trip to try to schedule your visit when there isn’t a convention at Coronado Springs.
  • The sink area can be closed off with sliding wood doors, allowing for privacy and quiet while getting ready in the morning.
  • Plan on filling your drink mugs or getting a meal around leaving or returning to the resort during the day.  I say this because some of the rooms can be quite a walk from Pepper Market.
  • The rooms are a bit more spacious than the other moderate resorts, and every room has queen beds or a king.  Not every moderate provides two queen beds.

Overall, we give this Disney resort a “B+”.

  1. Super excited I am staying here for my 40th birthday weekend next month. Thanks for the great information!

  2. My family stayed there all the way back in 2000 when I was ten. It might have been a long time ago, but I still remember it well. The lobby was so large and beautiful! I forget her name, but there was a cast member who made us feel special and made our trip magical. The pool was great and I loved the lake just outside the door!

  3. We stayed here this past Christmas week and it was beautifully decorated. Had a great time. A bit of a walk from a building towards the back to get to the main lobby and food. Food selection not as varied as we could have used but we survived.

  4. We’ve stayed at a few resorts at Disney and this one had the best pool so far. We really enjoyed the Dig Site pool, since I had a 1 1/2 year old and 6 yr old. There was something for both kids to enjoy. The only issue was our room was closer to the main building, which means we had to walk a lot to get to the kids pool. We did have a quiet adult pool close to our building, which I slipped out at night to go to while my husband watched the sleeping kids.

  5. We stayed at Coronado Springs last June. It was our first time going as a family, we took our two girls ages 7 and 1. Loved Coronado Springs. It was perfect for our family. The room was very spacious and clean. We went back to the hotel each afternoon to rest up and let the little one take a nap. It felt like we were a million miles from home, which was just what we wanted (and needed). Would recommend this to any family.
