So many people travel to Walt Disney World and never experience any of the fun Fort Wilderness has to offer. Since 1971, the Campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort have been accommodating guests on over 700 acres of wooded trails. This camping resort offers campsites for tents, pop ups and RVs and has cabins for those who don’t want to “rough it!” But, there are so many other things to do here than “camp!” Below, you will find a listing of the restaurant options, things to do around the resort and even seasonal activities. If you are needing to plan a day off during your WDW vacation, I highly suggest taking a bus or boat to Fort Wilderness and spending the day having fun with your family!
Restaurants:
- Trail’s End Restaurant– Enjoy a buffet for breakfast or dinner and an a la carte lunch. This restaurant features pioneer style food (fried chicken, ribs, roasted meats, veggies, salad bar, soup, cobbler, and ice cream) in a rustic log cabin style decor.
- Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue– This is a dinner show featuring western dancing, singing, skits and vaudeville comedy in Pioneer Hall. You can also enjoy an all you can eat feast of American favorites: friend chicken, ribs, vegetables. baked beans, corn bread and strawberry shortcake. Reservations are suggested and pre payment is required.
- Mickey’s Backyard BBQ– Enjoy an outdoor picnic with Mickey Mouse and friends in the covered open air Pavilion at Fort Wilderness. Participate in line dancing, singing to a country-western band and playing kid friendly games. Enjoy a buffet of BBQ ribs, smoked chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, corn on the cob, watermelon and more. Due to inclement weather, this may be cancelled.
- Crockett’s Tavern– This is an outpost lounge serving pizza, nachos and more from a full service bar.
To do:
- Bay Lake Beach– While you can’t swim in Bay Lake, you can relax on the white beaches and soak up the sun!
- Bike and Watercraft Rental– You can rent bikes to explore Fort Wilderness at a faster pace. You can also rent pontoon boats, canopy boats or Sea Raycers to enjoy Bay Lake.
- Carriage Rides– Spend 25 minutes with 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children in a horse-drawn carriage ride through the resort and campground. $45 per trip.
- Chip’n Dale’s Campfire Sing-a-long– Buy supplies to make s’mores at the Chuckwagon Snack Bar and roast the marshmallows around the campfire. Then stick around to sing some fun songs and enjoy a visit from Chip and Dale!
- Outdoor Movie– Following the campfire sing-a-long, stick around for a Disney movie under the stars. This is fun for your whole family.
- Electric Cart rentals– Fort Wilderness is 700+ acres. Try renting an electric cart to see all there is to see! Advanced reservations are encouraged!
- Electrical Water Pageant– Sit on the Fort Wilderness beach at 9:45 each night to see the electrical water pageant cruise by on Bay Lake.
- Fishing– Visit the marina and enjoy catch and release fishing with your family. Fees do apply.
- Horseback Riding– Saddle up a horse and enjoy a 45 minute ride through the trails.
- Outdoor Sports– With your family or a group of families, you can enjoy volleyball, tennis, tether ball, basketball, horseshoes, shuffleboard or archery.
- Pony Rides– Guests ages 2 and older (under 45 inches) can enjoy a “trot for tots” ride on the ponies at Tri-Circle-D Ranch.
- Tri Circle D Ranch– Tour the stables to see the horses used in the park parades!
- Swimming– Enjoy a dip in Meadow Swimmin’ Pool or Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool while the children enjoy scheduled pool activities with a cast member.
- Running trail– Fort Wilderness has a 2.3 mile trail to help you prepare for the next Run Disney event!
- Segway tour– If you are 16 years old and weigh 250 pounds or less, you can enjoy a 2 hour Segway tour (with training) of the Wilderness Back Trails. This is $90 per person.
- Decorations– During Halloween and Christmas you can visit the campsites to view the holiday decorations. The families decorate their campers with great flair! Many make it an annual tradition to travel during October and December to participate in the decorations.
- Holiday Sleigh Ride– Enjoy a 25 minute horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Fort Wilderness Resort throughout December.
- Haunted Carriage Ride– In the past, they have offered a 25 minute Haunted Carriage Ride through the resort while hearing the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
- Call 407-WDW-PLAY to make reservations and confirm that these events are taking place. These excursions can been booked up to 180 days in advance.

Ate lunch at Trail’s End on our last visit; it was so good. We then took the boat to MK. I love that boat and you never have to wait very long.
@shmutzycostumes I would LOVE to see the campsites decorated for the holidays! It’s on my list! 🙂 I also loved Trail’s End and could eat multiple meals there! Glad you had a great experience!
We stayed at the Fort Wilderness Cabins and it was such a wonderful experience. Normally when we come to Walt Disney World, we try to eat somewhere different every day; however we visited Trail’s End for dinner and came back again another day because the food was sooo amazing. We also got to experience the decorations at Halloween time. It is such a blast! I would definitely reccomend just visiting if you can’t stay! 😀
