Often overlooked the Magic of Animation

Yes, we’re all excited about the new value resort, The Art of Animation (even though the pricing doesn’t scream “value”!) but i’d like to talk about an underrated attraction at Hollywood Studios…the Magic of Animation.

In the depths of the studios, tucked away between a gift shop and the Disney Junior stage is a forgotten attraction…the Magic of Animation. You probably run in and out of the building chasing down the characters that meet & greet there (Sorcerer Mickey, the Army men, Pooh Bear, The Incredibles, etc.) but there’s a tiny roped off area just up the stairs that holds an incredible experience.

Imagine if you will, 30 minutes in which you feel like an artist, a Disney cartoon artist, and you’re wrapped up in a world of drawing tables, pencils with no erasers and a lopsided version of a Disney character to take home. This is one of my favorite things at Hollywood Studios, and I love being able to take the drawings home, I take the one’s my son does, cut them down and frame them–they make a great memory, and a great decoration!

Sit down with a Disney artist and learn to draw a character (characters are chosen from the artists selection and an audience vote). It’s a fun experience for all ages, and takes about 30 minutes; perfect for a break from the afternoon heat, or to take shelter from the rain.

Next time you’re in the studios…take a break, be an artist, and bring home a free souvenir! If you stop by the artists desk before or after they show, they may have a selection of their own drawings from previous classes for you to take home.

  1. I love the Magic of Animation!!!! I love seeing the characters……. I once saw all the incredibles in there!

  2. We will be doing this for the first time in about 6 days. My 11yo son will love it. He is autistic and is a GREAT drawer. He draws like a professional. He loves to draw Disney characters and says he wants to grow up to be an artist. I am sure this will be his favorite thing to do once he does it.

  3. This is one of my favorite attractions at HS! Especially in the heat of the day and there are never long lines to wait in, its a cool spot to sit for a bit and the activities inside are great. Thanks
