Marjorie Cadet was arrested Saturday in Pembroke Pines, Fl. on two counts of child neglect when she left her child and her niece alone in a Disney Store at a south Florida mall.  The 7 and 10 year old were told by Cadet, 36, to hang out there while she shops.

A Disney employee noticed her children running around the store and contacted mall security to try to find the children’s parents.  The children were brought to security and the police were called, Cadet eventually contacted security and attempted to pick up her kids.

Cadet said she only left the kids alone to change her infants diaper and get the older ones snacks, she wasn’t aware that she was gone for over an hour.

  1. Just because this woman was “arrested”, it doesn’t necessarily mean she was hauled off to jail. She could have been ROR’d and released with an appearance ticket. I think her abandoning her children, albeit temporarily, warrants more than a warning or lecture by security.

  2. Not too smart on the mom’s part, but was it really necessary to arrest her? The drama of the 21st century continues.

  3. Sorry, but the mall is no place to leave a kid alone, or two young kids, even in a Disney store. Arrest is a bit harsh though. A warning should have been sufficient, with a security log write-up to track the incident. if it repeats, then definitely an escalation is in order.

if she’s changing a diaper and/or getting snacks, you take the kids with you. This isn’t difficult stuff to understand.
