Marvel announces Benedict Cumberbatch as “Dr. Strange”

Marvel officially announnced Benedict Cumberbatch in the starring role of “Doctor Strange.”

The actor who is known for his roles as Khan, Smaug and Sherlock will now add the Doctor Strange role to his list.   Marvel’s upcoming movie will be directed by Scott Derrickson.

The film will showcase, Stephen Vincent Strange, the former neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme who is the Marvel Universe’s greatest protector and one of the superheroes’ most sought-after advisors.

Producer Kevin Feige said in a statement, “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,”  “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Doctor Strange known for his a red cape with a spectacularly high collar was mentioned in recent Marvel films such as  “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, during a scene where an espionage agent being interrogated by Cap, Black Widow talks about Stephen Strange as part of a list of potential threats & targets of the evil terrorist organization Hydra  and in “Thor: The Dark World.”, Dr. Selvig’s chalkboard has references to Doctor Strange as well.

I can’t wait to see how Benedict Cumberbatch will play Doctor Strange but looks like I have a bit of a wait until the theatre release on Nov 4, 2016.   Are you excited about all the Marvel Movies coming our way in the next few years?
