There is a reason why there are signs posted and announcements made that say “Please keep your hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle”. On July 10th a man, on Pirates of the Caribbean, lost the tips of his ring and pinky fingers on his right hand.
According to the Reedy Creek Fire Department the victim was an adult male from the U.K. He was taken to the hospital and did receive treatment.
How the accident happened is not really known but there are rumors that he had his hand in the water. The ride was shut down for about 5 hours and reopened at around 5:00 p.m.

Since she mentioned Reedy Creek Fire Dept in the story, so I’m assuming it’s Disney World in Florida
His fault. Probably did it on purpose to sue. Yesterday I read a post on another site: “Disney has come down in prices. It used to cost an arm and a leg. Now it only costs 2 finger tips.”

This is exactly why companies like Disney will put all these warnings in written and/or verbal language. If they don’t say something down to the last detail, it gives others possible rights to sue because “they didn’t know.” Far as I’m concerned, Disney has it covered on that ride. Thus, as others said, the man who lost his fingertips can’t say a thing about the ride not warning him.
I don’t buy it. There would be plenty of clearance even if his arms were up (people put them up all the time, I’m sure Disney calculated for that, even for very tall people) and even if they were up high enough for him to hit something, he probably would have a bruise or broken finger at most.
My guess is that he put them in the water and they got caught in some kind of gear/ mechanism.
Either way, Disney has cameras EVERYWHERE…. if they’re feeling generous they may offer him some sort of compensation but I’m sure it won’t take much to prove effort they are not liable.
Someone claiming to be a relative posted on a forum stating that it happened when he put his arms up on the drop, but the bottom line is the warnings are all over the attractions about keeping your hands inside.
No way he would have lost the tips of 2 fingers if he had had his hands in the boat as told so you know he was doing something that he should not have been doing. Painful lesson to learn. I hope he doesn’t try to blame Disney for this but knowing the mindset of most humans today I am certain he will. Heaven forbid he should take responsibility for his own actions.
“please keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the boat, and remain seated at all times.” i can hear it in my head, in the pirate voice, right now. being from the UK, he understood english… not seeing how the rule didn’t apply to him? obviously he thought it didn’t.
