Hey Chip and Co fans – Anonymouse here.  Slavedriver Chip has me running around trying to get the scoop on the possible shakeup at Disney California Adventure this summer…Rumor has it that Luigi’s Flying Tires at Disney California Adventure is set to be completely made over into a new ride, making it one of the shortest lived attractions at the Parks.  Cars Land opened June 15, 2012 and Luigi’s Flying Tires was expected to bring back the nostalgia of the old Flying Saucer attraction original to Disneyland in 1955.  John Lassetter (Chief Creative Officer at Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and DisneyToon Studios, as well as, the Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering) was a big fan of this original attraction and was the key designer behind Luigi’s Flying Tires attraction in Cars Land.  When it first opened, guests could throw large, inflatable beach balls at each other while leaning forward, backward and sideways to move their tires, but the beach balls were short lived and left the ride within two months of opening.  Apparently Disney guests didn’t appreciate getting hit in the head with huge inflatable balls when they were on vacation.  Go figure.   Ironically, the original Flying Saucer attraction at Disneyland was also short lived and left the park in 1960.

I hear that Luigi’s Flying Tires is going to be completely revamped into a new attraction in an extraordinarily short timeframe – January 2015 to December 2015.  It’s possible that they will scrap the compressed air floor that currently moves the tired around the track, and use some animatronic characters to move the tires around, eliminating the need for guests to steer their own vehicle.  The opening queue is likely to remain the same and it’s rumored that members of Guido’s family might be incorporated into the new attraction.  Right now it is all complete conjecture and the details are probably only known to select Imagineers at this point.

What do you think of the possibility of the changes coming to Luigi’s Flying Tires?  Are you a fan of the current ride?  Personally, I am not and welcome any change.  I don’t enjoy the ride and although I have tried it twice (once with the beach balls and once without), it is one ride I always skip while in Cars Land.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!
