Did I Just See & Hear Mermaids on the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride?
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I went on one of my favorite rides and as I went along, somehow I had forgotten the news that mermaids had been added to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride – and I am hearing most people did not know either. So, I wanted to share with you my experience so you can be better prepared and on the lookout for the mermaids on your next “POTC” trip.
So, there I was riding along with my group and I began to hear the voices of mermaids singing. I thought to myself, is that new? Then I saw mermaids swimming in the water, and I KNEW that was new. So, I said to my group they have added the mermaids to Pirates of the Caribbean! And all of a sudden the coolest part popped up, the skeleton of a mermaid. Normally, I would not think a skeleton was “cool” in any way. But, the Disney Imagineers did a great job of making the skeleton believable as a mermaid and really help seal the deal of mermaid representation in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I know that the mermaids are part of the story now, but I think Disney needs to be given a standing ovation on this one. Not only did they add the mermaids into the ride fairly quickly they also did it just subtle enough where you are looking for it and then are delighted with it!
Remember mermaids are becoming the big star of Magic Kingdom. The new Fantasyland is highlighting Ariel, with her new grotto area and the Little Mermaid ride found in Prince Eric’s castle.
Unfortunately, there has been no evidence found of a real mermaid, or so says the US government but I still believe and the new evidence may lie in Pirates of the Caribbean ride as that skeleton looked much too real! Take a ride yourself and let me know if you love the mermaid addition or want it back to the old way?
