Walt Disney World has 4 amazing Theme Parks, 2 Water parks, and an awesome entertainment and dining paradise (Downtown Disney) – and although that’s enough to keep anyone entertained for their whole vacation, Disney doesn’t stop there. They also operate a bunch of on-site Resorts that are not just places to sleep – but places to play, eat, relax, swim and best of all – they’re another place where you can enjoy your vacation!

We always make sure we spend some time at our Walt Disney World Resort – and here’s why you should too:

Pool Time: All WDW Resorts have multiple pools, and all are well maintained and staffed with lifeguards, and many offer kiddie pool areas too for the little ones. Personally I like the smaller pools – sure the main pool is where the bar is and the fountains/water slide etc – but it’s also where all the NOISE and people are. I like to relax at the pool, so I tend to seek out the smaller more quiet pools where I can read in a lounger and enjoy the water at my leisure. But of course if you have little ones, you might find yourselves at the bigger pool – but like I said, luckily there’s usually a bar nearby (which should help…)

Feeding Your Appetite: Dining at the Parks is great, but there are tons of Resort Dining options too! All Resorts have at least one quick service dining spot, and many have sit down restaurants as well. The quick service spots at WDW Resorts offer some of the best food I have had at Disney – from gelato and create your own salads to omelets and Mickey Waffles in the mornings – they really do serve up something for everyone. And the table service restaurants are great too – classy steakhouses, kid friendly buffets, character meals – they have it all, and it makes traveling from your Resort to another Resort (a not always easy task!) TOTALLY worth it

Exploring The Fun: A WDW Resort is not merely just a place to sleep – they have tons of stuff to do, too! Take a leisurely stroll around the Resort grounds and you’ll find fun playgrounds/play areas, seating areas, hidden Mickeys, gardens, fountains, character statues, souvenir/gift shops, and much more! Most Resorts also have a calendar of events – trivia, movie nights, pool games for the kids – so check with a cast member when you arrive at your Resort to get the low down on what activities they offer, and take advantage of as many as you can!

A Break From The Parks: Picture this – it’s lunch time at Disney World. It’s hot, the sun is relentlessly beating down on you, the lines for everything from burger spots to bottled water stands are insanely long, and your kids (and you!) are on the verge of a major meltdown. What do you do? GET OUTTA THERE – that’s what! Ditch the park and head back to your WDW Resort – where you can grab a bite (likely with a much shorter wait time!), take a swim, take a nap, and most of all – relax and re-energize so that you can head back to the Parks in the evening (when it’s cooler, less sunny, and generally less crowded!)

Of course, to experience all this awesome stuff – you would have to stay at a WDW Resort – and if you aren’t sure you want to do that, then I suggest you check out these reasons why staying on site is the best. Staying at a Disney Resort really immerses you in the Magic that is Disney – and it makes your vacation to the Happiest Place On Earth even happier!
