If you are like me, I am in constant fear that I will lose my kids at any theme park and Disney World or Disneyland is no exception.  From one paranoid parent to another, these are the ways I reassure myself that we will happily reunited if we become separated.

Keep in mind, my kids are 12 and 13 and give me a very hard time with these precautions lately.  Nonetheless, I persist.

1.  At the resort, before you leave, each day…take a photo of your child.  This ensures a recent photo as well as a record of what they are wearing each day.

2.  Upon entry into the park – pick a meeting place in case you get lost (pretty standard for us neurotic moms). Right in front of the castle like in the image above is a great central meeting spot.

3.  Make a fun bracelet with your cell phone number on it.  Those rubber ones that we all have floating around from various giveaways work great – like yellow Livestrong ones, remember those?  We decorated those with Mickey ears and put the phone numbers on them.  Another cool idea is to make a bracelet out of embroidery floss and then add a “charm” to it that has the phone number on it.  Here’s a hint – you can make a “charm” at the little kiosk where you make a tag for your dog at WalMart…same thing!

4.  Teach your little one to look for a Cast Member by recognizing a name tag.  They can go to that “safe” person and show them the phone number, reuniting them with you quickly.

Although my kids are getting too old for this….sniff, sniff….it really empowered them when they were little.  They knew exactly what to do if we were separated and even better, they knew we had a plan and would find each other quickly!

Take heart, everyone gets lost at least once as a kid – these tips will minimize the anxiety if and when it does happen.

  1. Sad We were there over spring break and a toddler had got lost
She was so scared and so was the woman who found her
Yelling did you lose your child in a panic
They called security and they handled it
but I thought This poor child should have had a
some thing like that or just use a sharpie

  2. That is so funny – I think we all have a silly story like that. It makes us feel better to be prepared, doesn’t it?!?!

  3. Growing up we took a lot of trips to Disney as well as other theme parks and my parents – especially my mom – was huge on assigning a ‘designated meeting place’ and recognizing employee name tags (this was pre-cell phone days)

Once we we were at a water park that had a huge climb through area for kids. My mom went off to do something else and so my dad told us to work our way through it and he’d meet us at the other side.

Well we rushed through it way faster than he expected and he wasn’t on the other side yet when we got out. Instead of waiting a few minutes at the exit for him to walk up, my sister and I IMMEDIATELY ran to a little hot dog stand near by and up to the first person with a name tag and said we were lost. My poor dad walked up to the exit right after we’d run off and stood there waiting, assuming we’d pop out any minute. Needless to say he was very confused when he heard his name called over the loudspeaker to come to meet us a few minutes later.

    We still laugh about it.
