Disney Theatrical Productions and Stage Entertainment has announced that the second international production, and the first production in Eurpose, of the hit Broadway musical Aladdin will begin its run in the Fall of 2015 at The Stage Theatre Neue Flora in Hamburg, Germany.  The first international production of Aladdin is set to premier in May of 2015 in Japan at The Dentsu Shiki Theatre Umi in Tokyo.

This production will be cast locally in Germany and will be performed in German.

Aladdin is adapted from the 1992 Disney animated film of the same name.  It is the story of a street urchin who, with the help of a magic Genie, sets out to win the heart of Princess Jasmine.  The production features a book by Chad Beguelin, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman.

The Broadway production of Aladdin opened to critical acclaim at the New Amsterdam Theater on March 20, 2014.  It features Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Clifton Davis as the Sultan, Don Darryl Rivera as Iago with Brian Gonzales, Brandon O’Neill and Jonathan Schwartz as Aladdin’s sidekicks Babkak, Kassim and Omar.

“The tale of Aladdin, the Genie and those three famous wishes is beloved around the world and we are incredibly proud of Casey Nicholaw’s spectacular new production which brings the story to vivid theatrical life.” said Thomas Schumacher, president and producer Disney Theatrical Productions, in a statement. “Following in the footsteps of our record-breaking productions of The Lion King and Tarzan,we look forward to another partnership with Stage Entertainment and can’t wait to share the heart and wit of this timeless tale with German audiences.”
