Back last month, we broke the news to you that one of Disneyland’s most popular attractions, Space Mountain, had closed as a precautionary measure due to OSHA citations. In case you missed it, you can read the whole article here.
Well, today, we have some good news to share with you. Disneyland’s Space Mountain has reopened! The popular attraction was able to reopen after the Walt Disney company decided not to appeal a workplace safety case.
According to the Orange County Register, Space Mountain reopened Friday evening (May 3, 2013). Disneyland’s Space Mountain was closed in April after state officials deemed that safety rules were violated after a contractor fell and suffered broken bones while cleaning the attraction’s slanted roof.
The contract company was fined nearly $61,000 for the safety violations. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health also proposed a penalty of almost $235,000 against Disney as a result of the contractor’s injury.
The deadline for the Walt Disney company to appeal was Friday and they did not appeal. However, the Walt Disney company reported that they are continuing to meet with the state agency regarding the citations.
Disney closed two other attractions, the Matterhorn Bobsleds in Disneyland and Soarin’ Over California in Disney California Adventure, last month to evaluate the safety of employees who maintain them. Both of these attractions have also reopened.
