Disney World Quick Tips - Use Giftcards to save on gas

If, like me, gas prices have you down and worried about it being a budget buster for your upcoming Disney trip; here are some ideas to help cut down the cost of gas for your vacation fund.

If you have a Kroger store nearby then I recommend buying Disney gift cards and stocking up. Right now in Kroger stores through April 7th you can buy Disney gift cards and receive 4x’s the fuel points. What this means is if you buy $200 dollars worth of Disney gift cards (that you will easily spend on your trip for spending money) then it will be 80 cents off per gallon- this adds up quickly and can really save you money. They do max you out at 1.00 off per fill up, but with most people driving quite a distance for their Disney vacation you will be filling up your tank more than once for sure!

Disney gift cards can be used anywhere on Disney property, to pay off the balance of your Disney World, Disney land or Disney Cruise line vacation, etc. We recently purchased some gift cards and pre paid our tips for a Disney cruise. The gift cards are available in amounts  up to $1,000, so what are you waiting for! ? Get out there and  buy up those gift cards and save on gas!

What Disney gift card offerings have you found recently to help you put more  aside for your Disney vacation? We’re all in this together, so let’s share tips to save each other some money!!

  1. Love this tip! Been doing it for over a year now. Used gift cards in October to purchase my APs. Got 4X fuel points and used Disney Visa to purchase so got Disney Rewards too!.

I’m not sure if all Kroger family stores offer this program, but here in AZ, the Fry’s stores offer a fundraiser program in conjunction with their store brand card (Fry’s, Ralphs, Kroger, etc.). Our H.S. marching band parents association purchases gift cards pre-loaded with $10 to sell. You pay $10 and then reload it everytime you shop. Every time you load the card, 5-6% of your purchase goes back to the organization, in this case, to my son’s band account. The money is distributed a couple times a year. So, when I purchase $1000 in Disney gift cards, I’m saving $50 in expenses for my son, so I pay $950. Then I get Disney Rewards too!

I also purchase the Disney gift cards to spend at the Disney store, both at the mall and online. Just purchased a Dooney sketch online. Went to Fry’s and got a gift card first, then completed the transaction.

  2. We just did this. Bought $500 in gift cards and MC had a special 10% cash back at Grocery and Drug stores – bought at Walgreens – if you spent $1000 in the month you received an additional $50 (making it like 15% off) Didn’t have Disney @ grocery stores – anyways my $500 only cost $425! Thank to you and Couponing to Disney for alerting me to that idea!
