The Disney Tattoo - Is It Right For You?

Tattoos are becoming increasingly popular these days, and people get them for all kinds of reasons. You can essentially get anything you can think of tattooed on your body, and a lot of people use it as a way to express themselves and their beliefs. And there are a lot of people who use it to express their love of DISNEY – whether it be a specific character, quote, movie, theme park, ride – you can really customize a tattoo to say exactly what it is you love about Disney!

I recently made the decision to get a Disney tattoo and it was something I designed/thought up on my own (my design is pictured above, and the finished tattoo is at the top of the article!). The “If you can dream it, you can do it” quote has always been a favorite of mine, and incorporating Mickey and Minnie into it was important to me too.

So why did I get one? I had been toying with the idea for a while, as I wanted to showcase my love for Disney World and all things “Mouse”, as some of my best memories are of trips I took with my family to Walt Disney World, and when I look at my tattoo, I am reminded of all the things I love about Disney: family, laughter, fun rides, food, characters, and most of all – the feeling that I get when I step onto Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom – a feeling of home. So the tattoo means a lot to me, and I am definitely glad I did it!

Here are some Tattoo FAQ’s/Common Tattoo Statements:

“Wow, did that hurt?” – The answer to this one would be yes, they do use needles after all, but mostly it feels like a strong persistent vibration than anything else, and I personally think it’s worth the pain to get something you love tattooed on your body!

It’s permanent!” – This one is true too, which is why I HIGHLY recommend you think long and hard about your tattoo design and placement before you take the plunge and get it done!

“Tattoos are ugly” – Many people have what you might consider to be “ugly” tattoos, but everyone is different, and your tattoo design can be as unique as you are, so don’t judge other people’s tattoos or go by what theirs look like, design yours and make it your own!

I’m afraid of needles” – ….can’t really help you on this one ha, if you are really that scared of needles, then maybe you should consider some temporary rub on tattoos – which they make in cute Disney designs (I may have sported a few of these in my day!)

“How do I know it will be clean and sterile?” – I have had my tattoos done at two different places, and both were clean and sterile, with new equipment and I never had any doubt that they weren’t being 100% careful. If you are uneasy about this, ask around to people you know who have had tattoos done, ask where they go and what the experience was like for them, so you can get a better idea of what different places are like. You will want to find a place and an artist that you are comfortable with, and that might take some time, so hold out until you are sure it’s the right place, artist, and design (because like I said, it’s permanent!)

Thinking of getting a Disney tattoo? I recommend that you sketch out (or use the computer if you aren’t much of an artist!) an idea of what you might want, including colors and try to make it as to size as you can. Then shop around to different artists until you find one who can help make your vision a reality. Make sure you are 100% comfortable with what you are getting, and think about it for a while before you get it done! The “rule” is that you should think about a tattoo design for a year, and if you still want it after a year, then you should get it

  1. I am going to get my tattoos done at the same place my doctor goes to. I figure if she thinks the artist is good and the place is clean, it is good enough for me. I will never catch up to the amount of tattoos my Dr has . . .

  2. I have 2 Disney tattoos planned, it is just finding the time to get them done!
Hidden Mickey peace sign behind my right ear and Dory on my wrist, soon I hope.

  3. I will be getting a Disney tattoo – after I finish my sleeve 😀 It’s a highly personal choice – and while it’s okay with most people – be prepared for some negativity. I just ignore it – it’s my body. Also – make sure that your tattoo shop is clean & sterile – just ask people with tattoos where they got theirs and if they liked the shop/people who did it. Most will be more than happy to tell you!
