Disney scientists develop new wireless charging technology

The days of searching for a power outlet and power cord for your dying cell phone while on the go at Disney may soon be over.

Developers at Disney Research are changing the way we will charge our electronic devices. Wireless charging has been available in the smartphone industry for a while. However, wireless charging currently requires you to place your device on a contact pad.

Scientists at Disney Research have built an entire room that can power electronics without a single cable, cord, contact pad, or charging cradle. This new technology is more impressive than anything on the market today. Disney scientists  used near field magnetic waves to fill a 16 by 16 foot room with wireless power. This magical technology is called “Quasistatic Cavity Resonance” or QSCR. The walls, floor and ceiling of the room are electrically charged producing a magnetic field capable of charging 320 smart phones.  And all of this can be done while remaining within safety guidelines allowing us to say good-bye to the dreaded power cord.
