You have already crammed your phone, trading pins, Vinylmations, camera, extra camera battery, sunscreen, sunglasses, rain poncho, autograph book, and water bottle into your bag right before leaving your resort to head to the park in time for rope drop. But there is one thing you are missing and is a crucial aspect if you want to be fully prepared for the parks – hand sanitizer!

Walt Disney World has an annual attendance of around 17 million people each year. That works out to roughly 46,500 people per day (give or take a couple hundred thousand depending on the time of year). That’s 46,500 touching lap bars, railings, tables, chairs, items in the stores, etc. Basically what I’m saying is, there is a lot of germs! Disney does their best to keep things clean, but the guy who sat in the log on Splash Mountain right before you, who was picking his nose throughout the forty-five minute queue…well, you get the idea. Sanitize often, especially before grabbing a snack and save yourself the unwanted souvenir of a head cold to take home with you.

Do you pack sanitizer with you when you head to the parks? Is there anything else that you can’t leave your resort without? Let us know in the comment box below.

  1. I visited all WDW parks last week and definitely packed the hand sanitizer (both gel & wipes). I work in Infection Prevention for a hospital system so I am keenly aware of just how gross everything is. I was kind of disappointed that there were not more hand sanitizing stations throughout the parks. The only places I noticed them were in the bathrooms, which is almost pointless. If you are using the restroom, you should be washing your hands with soap and water. I know that having Purell dispensers everywhere isn’t exactly “magical” but I figured Disney would find a way to include them near the entrances/exits to rides and other more high-traffic/high-touch areas.
