Disney has agreed to pay $3.8 million dollars in back wages to thousand of cast members after a U.S. Department of Labor unprompted investigation.

According to the report Disney will pay back wages to some 16,339 employees, which averages out to around $233 per worker.

Cast members were not paid for the 15 minutes before and after work and many were also deducted uniform expenses.

In a statement released by Disney “the Department of Labor has identified a group of cast members who may have performed work outside of their scheduled shift, and we will be providing a one-time payment to resolve this. We are adjusting our procedures to avoid this in the future.”

“These violations are not uncommon and are found in other industries, as well,” said Daniel White, district director for the Wage and Hour Division in Jacksonville, in a news release.

White said “the Disney resorts were very cooperative throughout the investigative process.”
