It’s a magical time of the year. And of the 98.6 million Americans who travel during the holiday season, many will visit Disney Parks.

While most of these families plan around festivities at the parks, a number of them also manage potentially life-threatening (severe) allergies. No matter where they travel, some triggers, such as food, insect stings and medication, can cause someone with severe allergies to experience anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic reaction).

You may already be aware that Mylan and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently announced a multi-year strategic alliance agreement to increase anaphylaxis awareness and enhance access to EpiPen (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors.Text Box: Holidays and winter vacations happen, so it’s important those at risk for anaphylaxis are prepared with an action plan The agreement includes:

Providing updated maps and signage in Disney’s domestic theme parks and cruise ships highlighting locations of EpiPen (epinephrine) and EpiPen Jr (epinephrine) Auto-Injectors.*

EpiPen and EpiPen Jr Auto-Injectors are available at First Aid stations in Disney’s domestic theme parks, on cruise ships and on Castaway Cay.

New educational resources that will roll out over the course of the alliance.

For those at increased risk for anaphylaxis, having an anaphylaxis action plan in place is critical, including:

  • Avoiding known allergens
  • Recognizing the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
  • Having access to two epinephrine auto-injectors, such as EpiPen Auto-Injector, at all times, and
Seeking immediate emergency medical care should anaphylaxis occur

Along with having an anaphylaxis action plan, it’s also important for those living with severe allergies to take steps toward preparedness before they hit the road or catch a flight:

  • Alert the airline and hotel about specific allergens
  • Send or pack snacks ahead of time
  • Wear a medical ID
  • Pack your carry-on to be prepared: keep EpiPen Auto-Injectors in the original packaging, along with a copy of an anaphylaxis action plan and a doctor’s note
