Travel Agents are about to be very unhappy. Their future commission they make on future bookings made by guests that are already on board a Disney Cruise Line ship will be cut. The previous rate of commission had been up to 16%. depending on the agents volume of sales. Now it is being capped at 10%.

Many guests book their next cruise while still on board because there are a few good perks to doing so, like cheaper deposits.

“I believe that an agency earns that higher commission amount by bringing more clients aboard Disney Cruise Line and that it’s unfair for them to say that they will pay a lower rate just because it’s booked on-board,” travel agent Kristy Ouellette said in an email.”I do a lot of work educating my client on the benefits of booking while they are still on-board but, if I continue to do that, I’m basically giving a percentage of my income away.”

Royal Caribbean, which is obviously a Disney Cruise Line competitor, was very quick to distance themselves from Disney’s recent change.
